New Queer Film Prime Follows Married Man Discovering His Attraction to Another Man
Jon Garcia's new queer romance Prime follows a married man questioning his sexuality after falling for another man. The film arrives digitally in November.
A married man begins questioning his sexuality after developing feelings for another man in Prime, a new independent romantic drama exploring open relationships, emotional intimacy and unexpected attraction.
Directed by American filmmaker Jon Garcia, the film follows Joe and Amelia, a couple whose decision to pursue relationships outside their marriage leads them into situations neither had anticipated.
Following its world premiere in Portland, Oregon, on Monday 26 October 2026, Prime is preparing for a digital release on Tuesday 10 November, with a newly released trailer offering a closer look at its central relationships.
What Is Prime About?
Joe, played by Logan Thomason, and Amelia, played by Hope Garcia, appear to have built a comfortable life together, with steady jobs, a beautiful home and a marriage based on communication and mutual trust.
They have also agreed to an open relationship, allowing each other to explore romantic and physical connections with other people while maintaining their commitment to one another.
Their arrangement becomes more complicated when Amelia begins spending increasing amounts of time with Luca, an older man played by Alex Christian, leaving Joe questioning whether something is missing from their marriage.
However, Joe's own experiences soon take an unexpected direction when he meets Oli, a delivery driver played by Adriel Irizarry, and begins developing feelings he had never previously considered.
As their attraction grows, Joe finds himself questioning his understanding of his sexuality and what his relationship with Amelia means for his developing connection with another man.

Director Jon Garcia Explores Love Beyond Traditional Relationships
Garcia has previously explored complicated same-sex relationships in films including The Falls, which follows two Mormon missionaries who fall in love, and Luz, a romantic drama about two men whose relationship develops in prison.
With Prime, the filmmaker approaches queer self-discovery from a different perspective, exploring a relationship where both partners have already agreed that attraction to other people does not necessarily represent betrayal.
"Prime grew out of a curiosity about how people navigate their individual needs and desires in romantic relationships, and how those bonds evolve over time," Garcia explained in a statement accompanying the film.
The director also said he wanted to approach consensual non-monogamy with warmth and optimism, allowing the characters to explore what love and commitment mean to them individually.
Rather than presenting Joe's attraction to Oli as a conventional affair, the story examines whether emotional relationships can develop alongside an existing marriage and how those connections affect the people involved.
When and Where Can You Watch Prime?
The film premiered at Cinema 21 in Portland on 26 October, before its planned digital and video-on-demand release through Dark Star Pictures on Tuesday 10 November 2026.
Garcia wrote and produced the film alongside Rodney David Moore, with Kody Harvard and Ash Mudra also appearing in the supporting cast.
Prime is scheduled for digital and video-on-demand release on 10 November 2026, with UK availability to be confirmed.
