Lupin Returns to Netflix After Three Years With a Dangerous New Enemy
Lupin part 4 is now streaming on Netflix with eight new episodes as Omar Sy's Assane Diop faces a mysterious copycat criminal.
Netflix's hit French crime drama Lupin is back after a three-year absence, with Omar Sy returning as gentleman thief Assane Diop for eight new episodes. Part four arrived on Friday 23 October, introducing a new mystery that threatens to destroy Assane's attempts to leave his criminal life behind.
The new instalment places Assane in an unfamiliar position. Having spent years using elaborate disguises and carefully planned schemes to outsmart his enemies, he now faces an opponent apparently capable of turning his own methods against him.
Assane Faces a Mysterious Copycat
The new story takes place four years after the events of part three, with Assane still serving his prison sentence. His priority is rebuilding his relationship with his family, particularly keeping a promise to his son that they will one day visit their relatives in Senegal.
However, those plans are disrupted when a mysterious figure begins carrying out robberies using the Lupin identity. A series of museum thefts raises questions about who is responsible, with evidence pointing towards Assane despite his insistence that he has nothing to do with the crimes.
The situation forces him to reconsider the future he had planned. Someone appears determined to exploit his reputation, creating a new challenge for a character who has frequently relied on staying several steps ahead of his opponents.
Omar Sy Returns With Familiar Characters
Omar Sy reprises his role as Assane, continuing the character's complicated journey from a skilled thief seeking justice for his father to a man increasingly concerned about the consequences of his actions.
The series also brings back familiar characters and relationships, including those whose lives have been affected by Assane's earlier decisions. Their presence ensures the new mystery remains connected to the personal stories established across the first three parts.
Inspired by the fictional gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, created by French author Maurice Leblanc, the Netflix drama combines elaborate crime stories with family relationships, social divisions and questions about justice.
Why the New Season Offers Something Different
The introduction of a copycat provides an interesting reversal of the series' established formula. Assane is accustomed to manipulating appearances and using other people's assumptions against them, but the latest storyline places him on the receiving end of a similar deception.
The premise also allows the programme to revisit the spectacular heists that helped establish its international popularity without simply repeating an earlier adventure.
For new viewers, the first three parts remain essential to understanding Assane's relationships and why his past continues following him. Returning audiences, meanwhile, can expect another combination of deception, elaborate planning and personal consequences.
All eight episodes of Lupin part four are available on Netflix now, alongside the previous instalments.
