Lady Gaga kept the arrival of her daughter Rose Bean Polansky so private that some people within her close circle reportedly did not know she had become a mum until the news emerged publicly.

The latest details offer a new glimpse into Gaga’s first months of motherhood after she and fiancé Michael Polansky quietly welcomed their first child earlier this year. New reporting says the couple kept the news within a very small circle while spending time privately as a family.

Rose was born in Los Angeles on June 9, but her arrival remained private throughout the summer. It was not until September 11 that reports emerged that Gaga and Michael had welcomed a child after they were seen together with a baby in Northern California.

More details followed on September 17 when a birth certificate revealed that their first child is a daughter named Rose Bean Polansky. Rose was born via surrogate, although Gaga and Michael have not publicly discussed the circumstances surrounding that private decision.

The couple have instead concentrated on keeping their daughter away from the spotlight. Recent reporting suggests that Gaga has stepped back from much of her usual public life while spending time with Rose and Michael, with even some friends reportedly surprised by how successfully the couple kept the news private.

Gaga had previously spoken about wanting to become a mother, making Rose’s arrival a significant new chapter away from the music, performances and global fame that have defined much of her adult life. She and Michael have been together since 2019 and confirmed their engagement in 2024.

For LGBTQ+ fans, Gaga has also been one of pop music’s most prominent bisexual stars for more than a decade. Her music and advocacy have maintained a close connection with LGBTQ+ communities, while her Born This Way Foundation has focused on supporting young people and their mental health and wellbeing.

There has been particular interest in Rose’s middle name because of Gaga’s connection with the late gay singer and activist Carl Bean, whose 1977 song I Was Born This Way helped inspire Gaga’s own Born This Way. While some reports have suggested Bean could be a tribute to him, Gaga and Michael have not confirmed the meaning behind their daughter’s middle name, so it remains a personal choice known to the family.

For now, Gaga appears determined to enjoy motherhood largely on her own terms. After successfully keeping Rose’s arrival private for three months, she and Michael have shared very little publicly about their daughter as they settle into life as a family.
