Alan Cumming and Ewan McGregor’s Gay Love Story Supernova Sells Out
Alan Cumming and Ewan McGregor will star in Supernova’s sold-out 2027 stage premiere, bringing a gay love story to Scotland.
Alan Cumming and Ewan McGregor are bringing a gay love story to the stage, with the world premiere of Supernova already sold out ahead of its summer 2027 run.
The Scottish actors will play Sam and Tusker, a couple who have been together for 20 years and must confront an uncertain future following Tusker’s diagnosis of early-onset dementia.
The production runs at Pitlochry Festival Theatre from 24 July to 21 August 2027, directed by John Tiffany.
What is Supernova about?
Based on Harry Macqueen’s 2020 film starring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci, Supernova follows Sam and Tusker on a campervan journey across England.
As they revisit meaningful places and spend time with loved ones, Tusker’s condition forces them to confront difficult questions about their future.
Rather than making their sexuality the central conflict, the story celebrates their established relationship while exploring love, independence and the emotional realities of dementia.
Macqueen has adapted his own screenplay for the stage, with Steven Hoggett providing movement direction.
