Home and Away: Why is Amelia pushing David away?

Amelia’s behaviour continues to leave those around her confused in upcoming Home and Away scenes, as she repeatedly distances herself from David despite his determination to understand what has changed.

David has already noticed a shift in Amelia’s attitude, and during a hospital visit he finally decides to address the issue head on. Hoping for some honest answers, he asks Amelia whether he has done something wrong, believing he may have unintentionally upset her.

Instead of opening up, Amelia keeps the conversation strictly professional. She assures David he has done nothing wrong, explaining that their doctor patient relationship has simply reached its natural conclusion, before quickly bringing the discussion to an end.

While David accepts her explanation, it is obvious there is far more going on beneath the surface. Amelia appears to be carefully choosing every word, determined not to reveal how she really feels despite clearly finding the conversation difficult.

Her emotional struggle becomes even more apparent when Jo privately asks her to delay David’s medical clearance. Although Amelia refuses to interfere with the surgeon’s decision, it is another situation that forces her to balance her professional responsibilities with her personal emotions.

Jo interprets Amelia’s refusal as a lack of compassion, believing she is turning her back on David when he needs support the most. From Amelia’s perspective, however, becoming involved would cross professional boundaries that she is unwilling to ignore.

The pressure continues to build throughout the day. After David happily announces he has received his physical medical clearance, Jo sarcastically thanks Amelia for all her “help”, making it clear she blames her for not doing more to slow David’s return to work.

Later, Jo vents her frustrations to Leah, prompting her to check in with Amelia. However, instead of accepting Leah’s concern, Amelia reacts emotionally, snapping that David and his recovery are none of her business before storming out of the Diner.

The outburst leaves Leah stunned, but it also reveals just how much strain Amelia has been carrying. For someone who has worked so hard to remain calm and professional, her inability to keep those emotions under control suggests the situation is taking a far greater toll than anyone realises.

Although Amelia insists nothing is wrong, her actions tell a different story. Rather than behaving coldly because she no longer cares, she appears to be creating distance for reasons she simply cannot bring herself to explain.

Whether Amelia is trying to protect herself, David, or both remains unclear, but her determination to keep everyone at arm’s length is only creating more confusion. With David searching for answers, Jo becoming increasingly frustrated and Leah now sensing something is wrong, Amelia may not be able to keep her true feelings hidden for much longer.
