Hollyoaks Tony Hutchinson faces painful Rex grief

Tony is set to face another emotional period in Hollyoaks as Rex’s death takes its toll on the Hutchinson family and Ro prepares to say goodbye to his friend.

Ro decides that Rex deserves a proper celebration of his life and begins organising a memorial in the park. After asking Ste for his blessing, he brings the village together for a colourful gathering dedicated to remembering Rex and the impact he had on those around him.

For Tony, the occasion brings another difficult experience of grief. He has already endured enormous loss following Diane’s death, and Rex’s murder now leaves him trying to support Ro while dealing with another death affecting his family.

Ro has been hit particularly hard by what happened to Rex. The pair had formed a close bond, and the memorial gives him an opportunity to honour someone who had become an important part of his life.

Tony therefore finds himself balancing his own emotions with the need to be there for his son. Ro is not facing everything alone, with his siblings and the wider village surrounding him as everyone gathers in the park.

Abigail also plays a part in the emotional service by delivering a tribute to Rex, while Ste attends as he continues mourning his husband. Leah remains close to her dad, with several different families brought together by the same devastating loss.

The memorial provides a moment for the village to focus on Rex rather than the unanswered questions surrounding his murder, although those questions remain very much alive elsewhere. Ste is still determined to understand exactly what happened and soon begins looking deeper into Martin’s involvement.

For Tony and Ro, however, the immediate challenge is learning how to live with another painful absence. The scenes look set to show father and son facing grief in different ways while relying on the family and community around them.
