Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has confirmed that she has filmed her final scenes as Cassie Plummer.

The actress joined the ITV soap in 2023 as Cassie, the estranged daughter of Evelyn Plummer and the mother of Tyrone Dobbs.

Since arriving in Weatherfield, Cassie has been involved in several major storylines. Viewers first saw her trying to rebuild her life while battling drug addiction, before reconnecting with Tyrone and attempting to form a relationship with his children.

Cassie later became Ken Barlow’s carer, but the storyline took a dark turn when she began drugging his drinks after fearing she would lose her income. Ken eventually discovered what Cassie had been doing.

The character has also been seen in a relationship with Steve McDonald, which created tension with Tracy Barlow.

Claire’s departure from Coronation Street was confirmed earlier this year after she joined the cast of the stage tour of Annie. She will play Miss Hannigan in the touring production.

Claire has now confirmed that she has already filmed her final scenes on the cobbles and admitted that the reality of leaving only truly hit her on her last day.

The actress reflected on her time at Coronation Street, saying cast members including Alan Halsall, Simon Gregson, Kate Ford and Ellie Mulvaney, along with the crew, had become like family.

She described saying goodbye as very emotional.

When asked what viewers could expect from Cassie’s exit, Claire teased it with one word: “explosive”.

Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks has also shared details about the storyline, confirming that Tyrone’s dad will make an appearance in the show.

Tyrone’s father Ross, played by Ian Burfield, is set to enter the frame after being discovered by Hope and Ruby through family tree research using their father’s DNA.

Ross then arrives in Weatherfield hoping to build a relationship with Tyrone.

However, his arrival is set to have a major impact on Cassie. Claire has explained that Cassie is devastated because she feels she had finally found stability and the family life she had been craving.

According to Claire, Ross turns Tyrone’s head and threatens the place Cassie has fought to build for herself within the family.

Claire has also said that Cassie knows Ross is dangerous and fears the impact he could have on her, her security and everyone around her.

Ross is connected to a painful part of Cassie’s past. Claire has explained that he was once a client of Cassie’s when she was a teenage prostitute and struggling with drug addiction.

She described him as “a blast from her sordid past”.

The storyline also threatens Cassie’s relationship with Steve McDonald, as Ross opens up a painful chapter that Cassie does not want Steve, Tyrone or anyone else on the cobbles to know about.

Claire has said Cassie is in love with Steve and that Ross’s arrival risks exposing secrets she has tried to leave behind.

Despite the difficult subject matter, Claire has praised the storyline, calling it the most fantastic exit storyline and saying she could not have wished for more.

Kate Brooks has also confirmed that Ross’s arrival will cause friction within the family because of Cassie’s history, and that it will contribute to her departure.

Coronation Street has not yet confirmed exactly how Cassie leaves, or whether the door will remain open for a future return.

For now, Claire Sweeney has wrapped filming and Cassie Plummer’s final chapter is on the way.

Coronation Street continues on ITV1 and ITVX.
