Coronation Street spoilers 7–11 September: Doug returns as Shona faces family reunion

Shona is confronted by a face from her past in Coronation Street from 7–11 September when her estranged father Doug suddenly appears in Weatherfield. His return takes her completely by surprise and immediately forces both Shona and Jodie to revisit a family relationship that has been fractured for years.

Doug arrives while Jodie is already caught up in another tense situation involving Bethany and Sarah. His appearance interrupts matters, but it quickly becomes clear that he has not simply come back for a brief visit.

Shona is stunned to see her dad again and has to decide whether she is prepared to hear what he wants. Doug asks if they can repair their relationship, opening the door to a conversation Shona may never have expected to have.

Doug makes it clear that he wants another chance with his daughters. However, returning and asking for reconciliation is very different from earning back trust, particularly after years of absence and hurt.

Shona therefore has plenty to consider before deciding how much space she is willing to give him in her life. She already has her own worries, including concerns that David does not trust her with Harper, so Doug’s arrival adds another emotional complication.

Jodie’s response is equally complicated. She has previously wanted answers about her father, but his return does not automatically mean she is ready to welcome him back.

His attention soon shifts towards Jodie’s behaviour. Doug catches her pretending to be Shona and is unsettled by what he witnesses, particularly when he notices the way she looks at David.

Doug therefore finds himself stepping back into the family while simultaneously questioning what has been happening during his absence. Instead of concentrating solely on repairing his relationship with Shona, he is immediately confronted by something involving Jodie that leaves him disturbed.

Elsewhere, Kit is facing a deeply difficult period after receiving a stage-three breast cancer diagnosis. His health remains a concern when he clutches his chest in pain after colliding with Ross, before later telling Todd about an upcoming CT scan.

Betsy is also given new hope when Sally finds details of a local fashion course. However, those hopes are later overshadowed by severe head pain that leaves Betsy fearing another stroke.

Doug may have returned hoping to repair old relationships, but he has arrived at a point when both of his daughters are already dealing with complicated situations of their own.
