Why Is the Royal International Air Tattoo Moving?
Royal International Air Tattoo is leaving RAF Fairford for MOD Boscombe Down. Discover why the airshow is moving and its confirmed 2027 dates.
The Royal International Air Tattoo is leaving RAF Fairford after more than four decades, with organisers confirming that the world-famous military airshow will move permanently to MOD Boscombe Down in Wiltshire.
The announcement on 4 November marks a major development for an event that has attracted generations of aviation enthusiasts to Gloucestershire.
Its first show at the new location is scheduled for 16–18 July 2027, giving visitors a new destination to plan for next summer.

Why Is the Royal International Air Tattoo Moving?
RAF Fairford has hosted the airshow since 1985, becoming internationally recognised for its spectacular flying displays and visiting military aircraft.
However, organisers have been reviewing the event’s long-term requirements and have decided that Boscombe Down offers the facilities and flexibility needed to support its future.
Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises, which organises the event, believes the relocation will create opportunities to develop attractions and improve the visitor experience.
The announcement follows the cancellation of the 2026 airshow, although organisers have not attributed the permanent move to one single factor.

Where Is the New Royal International Air Tattoo Location?
MOD Boscombe Down is a military aviation facility near Amesbury in Wiltshire, approximately eight miles north of Salisbury.
The site is also close to Stonehenge and within reach of several major routes through southern England.
For visitors who previously travelled to RAF Fairford, the change means planning journeys to a different part of the country.
Accommodation, parking and public transport arrangements may also differ from previous years.
Detailed visitor access information has not yet been announced, so regular attendees should not assume that arrangements from Fairford will apply at Boscombe Down.

What Happens to RAF Fairford?
Although the airshow itself is moving, the organising company will retain its headquarters in Fairford.
Organisers have acknowledged the contribution of RAF personnel, the United States Air Force and the local community, whose support helped establish the event’s international reputation.
The airshow’s connection with Fairford will therefore continue through its organisational base, even though future flying displays will take place elsewhere.

When Is the Royal International Air Tattoo 2027?
The first Royal International Air Tattoo at MOD Boscombe Down is scheduled for Friday 16 to Sunday 18 July 2027.
The event supports the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust, which provides educational opportunities and encourages young people’s interest in aviation, space and technology.
Organisers say the charity delivered more than 500,000 STEM engagements during 2025.
Aircraft participation, international displays, ticket arrangements and detailed visitor information will be announced ahead of the event.
