Trans Is Human Exhibition Now Showing at Queer Britain

Trans Is Human has arrived at Queer Britain in London, bringing 13 striking black and white portraits of trans+ people from across the UK to the national LGBTQ+ museum. The exhibition opened on 5 August and is set to remain at the museum until 29 November 2026.

Created and produced by Jake and Hannah Graf, the project features photography by internationally renowned photographer Mariano Vivanco. Its focus is on the people in front of the camera, sharing their individual lives and experiences rather than reducing them to narratives based solely around being transgender.

The 13 people featured are Adelle, Amanda, Austin, Carlos, George, Hansen, Jack, Leo, Milo, Miri, Petra, Sarah and Shika. Jake and Hannah describe the project as celebrating the stories of “inspiring, familiar and very ordinary transgender people from across the UK”, with the exhibition exploring experiences including love, hope, sadness and perseverance.

Queer Britain describes Trans Is Human as giving visibility to trans+ people while celebrating the individuals beyond narratives that are often imposed upon them. Announcing the exhibition, the museum also shared Jake’s description of its theme as “the truth, identity and the beauty of being yourself.”

Its arrival at Queer Britain is the latest chapter for a photography project that has continued to grow since its first public exhibition. Trans Is Human appeared at Westfield London from 27 March to 2 April 2025, marking Transgender Day of Visibility and introducing visitors to the portraits and personal stories behind them.

The project moved to Outernet London in November 2025, where it became an immersive exhibition in collaboration with The Independent and was soundtracked by Yungblud. Trans Is Human returned to Outernet as part of its Pride Month programme in June 2026 before moving to its current home at Queer Britain.

The Queer Britain exhibition therefore gives the project another substantial platform and several months in which visitors can experience it. Located in Granary Square, King’s Cross, Queer Britain is the UK’s first national LGBTQ+ museum and is dedicated to preserving, exploring and sharing LGBTQ+ histories and experiences.

For Jake and Hannah, Trans Is Human also continues years of work around transgender visibility and representation. Jake has worked across filmmaking, acting, writing, training and consultancy, while Hannah is a former British Army Captain who was appointed an MBE for services to equality in the Armed Forces.

Their latest exhibition, however, keeps its attention firmly on the 13 people photographed by Vivanco. By combining portrait photography with individual stories, Trans Is Human presents a varied collection of lives, careers, experiences and personalities connected by a simple theme: the people behind the photographs are more than any label placed upon them.

Trans Is Human runs at Queer Britain, 2 Granary Square, King’s Cross, London, until 29 November 2026. The museum is open Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm to 6pm, with admission operating on a pay what you can donation basis, including free entry for those who need it.
