Home and Away's Sonny Faces Unexpected Visitor as Dylan Arrives in Summer Bay

Home and Away is introducing a new member of Sonny's family this week, but his younger brother Dylan isn't arriving in Summer Bay simply to catch up.

Dylan Baldwin, played by Noah D'Annunzio, turns up unexpectedly at Sonny's doorstep after abandoning his life in Western Australia. His arrival on Wednesday 28 October brings old family tensions to the surface, with both brothers hiding things they would rather their parents didn't discover.

Sonny's younger brother arrives

The surprise reunion comes shortly after Sonny gives evidence against Beau in court, following the dealer's involvement in his steroid addiction and the abuse of Harper.

With the ordeal behind him, Remi suggests celebrating Sonny's six weeks of employment at Salt. However, after a night of drinking, Sonny wakes up with a hangover and discovers Dylan standing outside his home with a bag.

Dylan has previously been mentioned in the programme, but this is his first appearance. The younger brother has always been regarded as the family's golden child, with his academic achievements and successful engineering career frequently leaving Sonny feeling inadequate.

Sonny previously admitted that their parents' constant comparisons were difficult, although he was also proud of Dylan's achievements.

Dylan is hiding something

Initially, Dylan claims he has changed his holiday plans and decided to visit Summer Bay instead of travelling to Bali. However, it soon becomes clear that he has not told his family the truth.

Dylan reveals that their parents believe he is still working in his well-paid engineering job in Western Australia. In reality, he has resigned because following the career and lifestyle they chose for him has left him unhappy.

He admits that he has always envied Sonny's freedom to make his own decisions, despite being regarded as the more successful brother.

Sonny is concerned about Dylan's decision, but his questions quickly cause an argument. Dylan reminds him of the occasions when he has covered for his older brother and storms off before explaining everything.

The situation is particularly awkward because Sonny is keeping secrets of his own. Dylan doesn't know about his spinal injury, steroid addiction or separation from Dana, and Sonny wants to keep it that way.

Lacey catches Dylan's attention

The brothers' problems become more complicated when Dylan meets Lacey on the beach.

Remi finds the pair flirting after Sonny asks him to track Dylan down, and there is an immediate attraction between them. However, Lacey is still struggling with her feelings following Theo's death.

Although she enjoys Dylan's company, Lacey becomes overwhelmed by guilt at the prospect of developing feelings for somebody new. She later confides in Jo and Amelia, admitting that she is unsure whether she is ready to move forward.

Amelia encourages her to take things slowly and give herself another chance at happiness, but Jo is less enthusiastic about the developing romance.

Sonny also has concerns after seeing Lacey upset. He worries that Dylan's desire for adventure could leave her hurt and asks his brother to stay away from her.

Lacey, however, has other ideas. After considering her feelings, she arrives at the apartment dressed for a date and asks Dylan out, leaving him delighted.

The brothers face a difficult start

Dylan's arrival introduces a family relationship that has already been shaped by years of comparisons and expectations.

Although Sonny agrees to support his brother and offers him somewhere to stay, their different attitudes towards life could continue causing problems, particularly with Lacey becoming involved.

The storyline also gives Sonny an opportunity to confront his own feelings about being treated as the less successful sibling, while Dylan begins questioning whether his apparently perfect life was ever what he wanted.

Home and Away airs on Channel 5 and is available to stream on 5. Dylan makes his UK debut on Wednesday 28 October in episode 8814, with further developments continuing throughout the week.
