Ian and Elaine's latest clash takes an unexpected turn in EastEnders

Ian's attempts to organise a community event in EastEnders are about to bring him into an unexpected situation with Elaine. The pair find themselves at the centre of Walford's bonfire celebrations after a misunderstanding turns a simple request into something far more personal.

It all begins when Ned offers Ian some advice, inspiring him to organise a bonfire night for the Square. Ned also helps Ryder secure a job with Ian, although problems soon arise with the preparations.

A misunderstanding leads to trouble

Ian discovers that Ryder's fireworks are out of date and cannot be used, leaving the planned event in difficulty. Hoping to rescue the celebrations, he approaches Elaine about borrowing some of her fireworks.

Unfortunately, Elaine believes Ian is asking her on a date and refuses his request to save face. Ryder and Oscar then join forces to steal her fireworks, adding further complications to the preparations.

The disagreement eventually leads to an argument between Ian and Elaine, but he surprises her by interrupting her tirade with a kiss. It's an unexpected moment between two familiar Walford faces whose interactions have taken a decidedly unusual direction.

With the rest of the Square dealing with serious family difficulties, Ian and Elaine's encounter offers a lighter storyline during a busy week.

EastEnders continues on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
