Home and Away: Is Sonny’s addiction now beyond his control?
Sonny’s latest actions leave serious questions about whether his steroid addiction has reached the point where he can no longer stop on his own
Sonny’s steroid addiction reaches another alarming milestone in upcoming Home and Away scenes as he begins making decisions that would once have seemed unthinkable. After being refused more drugs by Beau, Sonny quickly resorts to stealing Remi’s credit card, leaving viewers wondering whether he has now completely lost control.
The latest developments suggest Sonny is no longer making rational decisions. Every choice he makes appears to be driven by one goal, finding a way to get hold of more steroids regardless of the consequences.
His confrontation with Beau makes the situation painfully clear. Sonny genuinely believes he can persuade Beau to supply him without payment, but when that plan fails, he immediately starts searching for another source of money instead of accepting that he needs help.
Within hours, he has gone from pleading with Beau to stealing from one of his closest friends. The speed with which he makes that decision highlights how addiction can alter someone’s priorities, placing the next fix above friendships, trust and even basic morality.
Remi has repeatedly tried to support Sonny despite the warning signs that something has not been right. He agrees to meet him, listens to his apology and appears willing to move beyond their recent problems, only for Sonny to take advantage of the opportunity by stealing his credit card.
It is a heartbreaking moment because Sonny almost certainly understands how much damage his actions could cause. Even so, the need to satisfy his addiction proves stronger than the guilt of betraying someone who has stood by him.
The storyline also shows that addiction rarely affects just one person. While Sonny is the one taking the drugs, the consequences are now spreading throughout Summer Bay as the people closest to him become caught in the fallout from his decisions.
Beau has unknowingly become part of the crisis after supplying the steroids that fuel Sonny’s dependence. Meanwhile, Remi now faces becoming the latest victim of Sonny’s increasingly reckless behaviour, despite having done nothing more than offer his friend another chance.
One of the most powerful aspects of the storyline is that Sonny does not come across as a villain. Instead, viewers are watching someone make increasingly desperate decisions as his addiction tightens its grip, leaving him trapped in a cycle that becomes harder to escape with every passing day.
That does not excuse his behaviour, but it does explain why his actions are becoming so unpredictable. Every poor decision pushes him further away from the people who want to help him, leaving him even more isolated than before.
The coming episodes could determine whether Sonny finally reaches the point where he accepts he needs support or whether his addiction continues to escalate. If the truth about the stolen credit card is exposed, he may find himself facing consequences that extend far beyond losing Remi’s trust.
For now, one thing is becoming increasingly clear. Sonny is no longer simply making bad choices, but allowing his addiction to dictate every move he makes, and that is what makes his story one of the most concerning currently unfolding in Summer Bay.
