Does Steve Marchant Know He Has a Daughter as Thea Prepares to Contact Him in Emmerdale?
Does Steve Marchant know Thea is his daughter? His Emmerdale return raises questions as Thea prepares to contact her father.
Steve Marchant is returning to Emmerdale after almost three decades, but one of the biggest questions surrounding his comeback is how he will react when he discovers that Thea Ramsden is his daughter.
Kim has already told Thea that Steve is her biological father, explaining that their marriage ended bitterly and that he did not know she was pregnant.
Steve was sent to prison following a series of crimes, including the attempted murder of Kathy Glover. Kim subsequently left the village, while Thea was placed for adoption.
Although Kim believes Steve was unaware of the pregnancy, it has not been established whether he discovered anything about Thea during the years that followed.
Thea is determined to make contact with him and devises an unusual approach, initially pretending to be a solicitor rather than revealing their family connection.
Steve becomes suspicious of the unexpected contact, particularly when Kim attempts to persuade him to stay away by offering money.
The prospect of obtaining further money attracts his interest, while Thea's attempts to reach him eventually lead to a voicemail that leaves him facing an extraordinary discovery.
Paul Opacic is returning to the role he played between 1996 and 1999, bringing Steve back into Kim's life following their bitter separation. However, a romantic reconciliation between the former spouses has been ruled out, leaving Steve's potential relationship with Thea as the central issue surrounding his return.
For Thea, meeting her father could provide another opportunity to understand why she was adopted and what happened before her birth.
However, Steve's criminal history and difficult relationship with Kim suggest that discovering the truth may not be straightforward.
Will Steve genuinely want to get to know his daughter, or could his interest in Kim's money complicate Thea's hopes of building a relationship with him?
Emmerdale continues on ITV1 and ITVX.
