Why Is Amy Hiding the Truth About Craig in EastEnders?

EastEnders viewers are questioning why Amy has not told police the full story about Craig’s death, particularly after the terrifying ordeal she experienced at his hands.

After weeks of grooming, manipulation and abuse, Amy fought back when Craig became violent, striking him across the head with a candlestick. Thursday’s episode confirmed that Craig had died, but Amy returned to Walford without revealing what had happened.

Jack and Denise were relieved to have her home, although the injuries to her face and arms immediately raised concerns. Amy struggled to discuss her ordeal, even as her family desperately tried to support her.

Why hasn’t Amy told the police?

When officers arrived to question Amy, she explained that she had unlocked the bedroom door and escaped. However, she omitted the confrontation and the blow that killed Craig.

The decision has prompted questions from viewers who believe the circumstances of the attack are important.

One viewer wrote online “ I can’t for the life of me understand why Amy’s not saying she hit Craig over the head when it’s obviously self defence.”

Another questioned the secrecy surrounding the incident, asking: “Why can’t anyone ever just tell the truth?”

A third viewer raised another concern about Amy’s return, asking: “Is anyone going to call him to tell his sister is back?”

That question concerned Ricky, whose absence from the immediate family scenes has also attracted attention.

Although viewers are frustrated by Amy’s silence, her experience must not be overlooked. She has survived a traumatic situation, and fear or confusion could help explain why she is struggling to give a complete account.

Whether her actions would legally amount to self-defence would depend on the circumstances and evidence, rather than simply the fact that Craig attacked her.

Could Sean help Amy open up?

Amy appeared comfortable enough with Sean to ask whether he trusted the police. His response, shaped by his own experiences, came shortly before officers arrived.

Jack and Denise want to protect Amy, but she may need considerable support before she feels able to discuss the violence she experienced.

The police investigation could bring further questions, particularly if evidence from Craig’s death contradicts Amy’s account.

Could Sean become the person Amy finally confides in, or will Jack be the first to discover what really happened?
