Coronation Street: Why Lauren Bolton becomes a suspect after Dylan Wilson attack

Lauren Bolton has every reason to be furious with Dylan Wilson in Coronation Street, making her one of the most intriguing suspects after he is brutally attacked.

In upcoming scenes, Dylan is lured to the precinct before being assaulted and left unconscious. Nina later discovers him and calls for an ambulance, with Dylan rushed to hospital as police begin searching for the person responsible.

Ever since Betsy suffered her stroke, Lauren has found it impossible to forgive Dylan. She believes his actions set off the events that turned Betsy's life upside down, and she has made little effort to hide how angry she remains.

She has seen the lasting impact the stroke has had on her friend, from the challenges she faces every day to the loss of confidence that continues to affect her. Knowing how much Betsy has endured has left Lauren convinced somebody should be held accountable.

She has repeatedly defended Betsy and has become increasingly protective as her recovery continues. If someone decided Dylan deserved to suffer for what happened, Lauren would certainly have a believable reason for wanting revenge.

Lauren has worked hard to rebuild her own life after everything she has experienced in recent years. Throwing that progress away by carrying out a violent attack would represent a huge step backwards for a character who has fought to leave her troubled past behind.

Coronation Street has often placed suspicion on characters with the strongest motives before revealing someone else was responsible. Lauren's anger could therefore be exactly what the programme wants viewers to focus on while the real attacker escapes attention.

There is also the possibility that Lauren's emotional reaction after the assault is simply the response of someone who believes the cycle of violence surrounding Betsy has gone too far.

With Dylan recovering in hospital and the investigation gathering pace, viewers will soon discover whether Lauren's determination to protect Betsy remained just that, or whether her anger pushed her into making a decision she could never take back.
