Cassie makes heartbreaking Coronation Street exit after Ross turns everyone against her

Cassie Plummer's time on Coronation Street looks set to come to an emotional end after Ross succeeds in turning almost everyone she cares about against her.

Having spent months rebuilding her life and earning back the trust of Tyrone, Fiz and those closest to her, Cassie suddenly finds herself completely isolated. As Ross tightens his grip on the situation, every attempt she makes to expose him only seems to push her loved ones even further away.

The latest developments see Cassie report Ross to the police after recognising him as the man who abused her when she was a vulnerable teenager. However, instead of receiving the support she hopes for, her claims are met with doubt as Ross continues to convince those around him that Cassie cannot be trusted.

Steve is left believing Ross's version of events and dismisses Cassie's accusations. Already convinced she has been responsible for a string of problems, he refuses to listen as she desperately tries to explain what has really happened.

With nowhere left to turn, Cassie decides there is no future for her in Weatherfield. She accepts a job on a cruise ship and prepares to leave the Street behind, believing it is the only chance she has to make a fresh start.

Before she can go, Cassie asks Steve to meet her at the police station in the hope they can part on better terms. It is a chance to clear the air before she leaves, but events take another worrying turn when Ross arrives first.

Ross offers Cassie a lift, claiming he will take her where she needs to go. She reluctantly gets into his car, unaware that Steve is on his way to meet her.

When Steve eventually arrives, Cassie is nowhere to be seen.

Ross later insists he dropped Cassie off, but his account begins to change, leaving Steve questioning exactly what happened after she accepted the lift. The conflicting explanations raise fresh concerns about whether Ross has been telling the truth all along.

Cassie's disappearance leaves those closest to her facing uncomfortable questions. After repeatedly dismissing her fears, Steve begins to wonder whether he made a serious mistake by trusting Ross instead.

Whether Cassie has simply left Weatherfield to begin her new job or whether something more sinister has happened remains to be seen. What is clear is that Ross's manipulation has left lasting damage, destroying Cassie's relationships and driving her away from the community she had fought so hard to become part of again.

After becoming one of Coronation Street's most layered characters over the past few years, Cassie's departure promises to be one of the soap's most emotional exits, while Ross's actions leave plenty of unanswered questions still hanging over Weatherfield.
