Dawn Fletcher’s future has never looked more uncertain as Emmerdale prepares to put her at the heart of one of its biggest summer stories.

What should have been an exciting build up to her wedding with Joe Tate has quickly unravelled into a series of devastating events. Secrets have been exposed, relationships have been tested and now Billy’s life hangs in the balance after a brutal attack.

ITV has confirmed Dawn is one of six women leading the soap’s summer storylines, but exactly how her journey unfolds remains one of the broadcaster’s biggest secrets.

The trouble began when Caleb tells Joe that Dawn and Billy shared a kiss in recent scenes.

Joe had already chosen Billy to be his best man, making the revelation all the more painful. Trust is immediately shattered, leaving Dawn caught between the man she is preparing to marry and the man she once built a life with.

Things become even more complicated after Billy ends his relationship with Gabby.

Shortly afterwards, Dawn desperately tries to contact Billy, ringing his phone in the hope of speaking to him. Instead of Billy answering, viewers see his phone ringing beside him as he lies motionless on the ground next to a pool of blood in one of the week’s most shocking scenes.

The discovery immediately raises huge questions. Will Billy survive? Who attacked him? And is the assault connected to Dawn and Billy’s kiss, or is somebody else entirely responsible?

Joe is certain to come under suspicion after learning the truth about the kiss, particularly given how angry and humiliated he is likely to feel. However, Emmerdale is rarely that straightforward, and there could be several other suspects with reasons to target Billy.

Her desperate attempts to reach Billy before discovering what has happened suggest she still cares deeply about him, regardless of the future she had been planning with Joe. If Billy survives, Dawn may be forced to confront feelings she believed were firmly in the past.

That also leaves one enormous question hanging over the village. Can Dawn and Joe’s wedding possibly still go ahead?

The ceremony may still take place, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to imagine either of them reaching the altar without further heartbreak. Billy’s condition, the mystery surrounding his attacker and the emotional fallout from the kiss all have the potential to change everything before vows are exchanged.

ITV is keeping the biggest moments of Dawn’s summer story firmly under wraps, but with Billy fighting for his future, a mystery attacker still at large and a wedding hanging in the balance, Dawn’s life is about to become more complicated than ever.

Viewers will have to keep watching to discover whether Billy recovers, who left him lying in a pool of blood and whether Dawn and Joe’s wedding will ever become reality.
