The couple have been growing closer, but David finds himself overwhelmed after a conversation with Gary reminds him of the uncertainty surrounding marriage and family life.
Gary is staying at Cash and Eden's home while Eden remains seriously ill, and his concerns about the couple's future prompt David to reflect on his own experiences.
Later, David and Amelia arrange to spend an evening together, but his mood changes and he abruptly cancels their plans.
Amelia is confused by his behaviour and wants to understand why he has suddenly become distant. David initially struggles to explain himself, even when Amelia confronts him directly about what happened.
An interruption from Jo gives him an opportunity to avoid the conversation, but Amelia refuses to accept another unexplained dismissal. David eventually admits that memories of Kristina have been troubling him and that he did not know how to discuss those feelings with someone new.
Rather than taking offence, Amelia reassures him that she never expected to replace his late wife or compete with their marriage. The conversation allows them to acknowledge that both have personal histories which will continue to influence their relationship.
Their reconciliation brings David greater confidence, and the couple subsequently arrange a double date with Justin and Leah.
However, the evening creates another awkward situation when Justin suggests they visit his home, forgetting the difficulties surrounding Richie living with him and Leah.
David and Amelia appear to be making progress, but their relationship is still relatively new, and both are learning how to discuss uncomfortable subjects.
The question is whether David can continue opening up about Kristina without allowing his grief to create distance between them.
