Who is Harleen in EastEnders and what does she mean for Suki and Eve?
Who is Harleen in EastEnders? Ria's biological mother brings uncertainty to Suki and Eve's plans for their family.
Harleen is a new figure in EastEnders because she is Ria Virdi’s biological mother. Her arrival creates a difficult situation for Suki and Eve Panesar-Unwin, who have been caring for Ria while trying to build a secure future for their family.
Who is Harleen and who plays her?
Harleen is portrayed by Taniya Jamil. She enters the story as Ria’s birth family becomes a more immediate part of Suki and Eve’s lives, bringing questions about care, responsibility and family relationships to the surface.
Suki and Eve have been fostering Ria, and their hopes for the future involve more than simply deciding what they want. Ria has her own background and connections, which deserve consideration alongside the couple’s commitment to her.

Why does Harleen want to meet Suki and Eve?
The meeting brings together people linked through Ria who do not yet know how to relate to one another. A tense family atmosphere makes an already sensitive situation harder.
Ash Panesar is also involved, and disagreement between her and Suki risks overshadowing the discussion. Harleen witnesses an uncomfortable interaction, leaving the adults to deal with consequences that may extend beyond the argument itself.

Her arrival should not automatically be treated as an attempt to take Ria away. The implications for Ria’s care need to emerge from the story rather than speculation about her birth mother’s intentions.
What could happen to Suki and Eve's family?

The couple’s storyline places their relationship within a broader conversation about fostering and the realities of creating a family.
Suki and Eve can care deeply for Ria while recognising that other people may also have important roles in her life.

Their reactions to Harleen may be painful, but the existence of a birth parent is not inherently a threat.
What matters is how the adults handle their differences and what decisions are made for Ria. Sukeve have come so far, and will no doubt get through this painful process together, as they always do.
