Who Is Tane Parata in Home and Away? His Story and Huge 2026 Explained

Tane Parata has become one of Home and Away’s most established characters, with his time in Summer Bay taking him through family tragedy, major relationships, fatherhood, crime and some incredibly difficult battles to protect the people closest to him.

Played by New Zealand actor Ethan Browne, Tane has been part of the soap since 2020. For viewers who have joined Home and Away more recently, or simply need a refresher, here is a quick guide to Tane’s story from his arrival through to the dramatic events surrounding Harper, Archie and Beau in 2026.

This character guide is correct as of August 2026 and includes storylines that have already aired in Australia. UK viewers should be aware that some of the events covered below have not yet aired on Channel 5.

Who is Tane Parata?

Tane arrived in Summer Bay as the younger brother of Ari Parata and uncle of Nikau. His early appearances established him as the more rebellious member of the Parata family, with a criminal past and a tendency to find himself on the wrong side of trouble.

Family has nevertheless always been central to Tane. His relationship with Ari developed considerably during their time together in the Bay, making Ari’s eventual death from cancer particularly devastating and leaving Tane as one of the remaining central figures of the Parata family.

Tane also became closely associated with the local gym, eventually taking ownership of Summer Bay Fit. The business gave him roots in the community and has remained an important part of his life through several subsequent storylines.

Tane and Felicity

One of Tane’s biggest relationships was with Felicity Newman. Their romance survived numerous difficulties and eventually led to marriage, although their wedding day itself became memorable for entirely different reasons when Felicity and Eden Fowler were involved in a horrific car crash on their way to the ceremony.

Tane and Felicity eventually married, but disagreements over their future, particularly around having children, placed enormous strain on them. Their marriage ended and Felicity later died following a brain aneurysm, leaving Tane grieving someone who had been a hugely important part of his life.

Another difficult period saw Tane become attached to baby Maia, whom he discovered abandoned on the beach. His determination to care for her became increasingly complicated and ultimately resulted in him taking Maia from the hospital, leading to serious legal consequences.

Harper, Archie and becoming a father

Tane’s relationship with Harper Matheson became another defining chapter. Their friendship developed into a brief romantic encounter, which resulted in Harper becoming pregnant.

The pair initially attempted to build a future together for the sake of their baby, but Tane ultimately acknowledged that he could not give Harper the romantic relationship she wanted. Their engagement ended, although the birth of their son Archie permanently connected them.

Fatherhood quickly became one of Tane’s strongest motivations. Even when his relationship with Harper became difficult, his devotion to Archie remained constant, although disagreements over parenting and Harper’s family would eventually push their relationship as co-parents to breaking point.

Jo Langham enters Tane’s life

Tane later met Jo Langham after finding her stranded with a broken-down car. Their first encounters were hardly straightforward, but an attraction gradually developed between them.

Jo came with considerable family complications of her own. She is the daughter of police sergeant David Langham and sister of Lacey, while Tane’s past meant David was far from enthusiastic about him becoming involved with his daughter.

Tane and Jo eventually began seeing each other in secret. Their relationship was complicated by Harper, Tane’s responsibilities towards Archie and the return of Jo’s former boyfriend Eddie Shepherd, but Tane’s feelings for Jo became increasingly difficult to ignore.

The devastating train crash brought those feelings sharply into focus. Tane helped rescue an unconscious Jo from the wreckage after Eddie fled the scene rather than helping him carry her to safety, and Tane and Jo subsequently moved closer towards becoming a proper couple.

2026: Kerrie tears Tane and Harper apart

Much of Tane’s 2026 story has revolved around Archie and the arrival of Harper and Dana’s estranged mother Kerrie.

Tane strongly opposed Kerrie being allowed into Archie’s life after learning about Harper and Dana’s traumatic childhood. His determination to keep his son away from her caused increasingly serious arguments with Harper, and at one stage Tane left with Archie before eventually returning.

Harper responded by seeking a formal custody arrangement. Although the pair eventually moved towards sharing Archie’s care equally, Kerrie remained a source of conflict and Tane never trusted her intentions.

His suspicions proved well founded. Kerrie’s actions would soon leave Tane fighting not only to remain part of Archie’s life, but to keep his freedom.

Tane is framed and goes on the run

Kerrie took revenge by planting drugs in Archie’s room and ensuring police discovered them. Tane was arrested and accused of being involved in dealing drugs, placing both his freedom and his future with Archie in jeopardy.

As the evidence appeared to stack up against him, Tane made the drastic decision to run. With help from Mackenzie and the River Boys, he travelled to Western Australia, where his escape unexpectedly brought him into the orbit of former Summer Bay favourite Darryl “Brax” Braxton and Ricky Sharpe.

Tane was forced to confront what remaining on the run would really mean. Escaping prison might keep him free, but it could also mean abandoning Archie and potentially spending years unable to be part of his son’s life.

Cash and Jo eventually tracked Tane down, and he agreed to return home and face what was waiting for him. Tane handed himself in and was remanded in custody while those closest to him continued searching for evidence that could prove Kerrie had framed him.

The baby monitor finally clears Tane

The breakthrough came from somewhere nobody had expected: Archie’s baby monitor.

Brax and Ricky’s son Casey discovered stored footage showing Kerrie entering Archie’s room and hiding the drugs. After the device was accidentally dropped, Brax got it working again and discovered exactly what Casey had found.

The recording provided the evidence Tane desperately needed. After months of maintaining that Kerrie had set him up, there was finally proof supporting his version of events and a route towards clearing his name.

For Tane, it should have marked the end of an ordeal that had cost him his freedom and almost cost him his relationship with Archie. Instead, another frightening situation unfolded before he could put prison behind him.

Tane’s prison nightmare

While awaiting his release, Tane became caught up in a violent incident involving prison guard Peterson. When Tane attempted to intervene as inmates attacked the guard, they turned on him and brutally assaulted him.

Tane was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. Doctors discovered free fluid around one of his kidneys and were concerned about internal bleeding, with the possibility of urgent surgery being considered.

He survived, but his ordeal left its mark. His relationship with Jo had also been badly damaged by her doubts about whether she could cope with potentially waiting years for him if he remained in prison, and Tane ultimately ended their relationship.

After being falsely accused, going on the run, spending time behind bars and nearly losing his life, Tane was finally free to return to Archie. Rebuilding his life, however, was going to take considerably longer.

Tane rebuilds his life

After leaving hospital, Tane attempted to settle back into ordinary life. His priority remained Archie, while John and Mali had kept the gym running during his absence.

Tane also found himself supporting Mackenzie following her miscarriage and stepped in when Sonny’s increasingly obsessive training became a concern. After discovering Sonny had broken into the gym to exercise, Tane restricted how much time he could spend training there.

Eventually, Harper encouraged Tane to take Archie to New Zealand to meet Nikau and other members of the Parata family. It offered father and son an opportunity to reconnect with Tane’s family away from everything that had happened in Summer Bay.

While Tane and Archie were away, however, Harper’s own life began moving in a new direction.

Tane returns as Harper moves on with Beau

Harper became involved with Beau, a physiotherapist she initially knew through his work with Sonny. What Harper did not initially realise was that Beau had also been supplying Sonny with steroids and putting pressure on him as his dependence on them intensified.

Tane’s return with Archie brought him directly into Beau’s orbit. Beau became uncomfortable about Tane’s permanent presence in Harper’s life and questioned her about their history, while Tane remained connected to Harper through Archie regardless of who either of them chose to date.

For Tane, Beau’s wider dealings with Sonny are only part of the problem. Anyone Harper brings into her life could potentially become part of Archie’s world too, giving Tane a very personal reason to care about what happens.

Harper and Beau’s relationship turns dangerous

Beau’s behaviour towards Harper has become increasingly concerning, with his controlling side becoming harder for her to ignore. He has struggled to respect her boundaries and his actions have escalated beyond jealousy.

The situation becomes particularly frightening when Beau grabs and then later hits Harper during confrontations. His involvement in supplying steroids is also exposed, bringing police attention firmly towards him and creating another serious situation around Harper and Archie.

Beau also attempts to take Archie from the Coffee Cart, but Marilyn prevents him from doing so. A terrified Harper quickly takes her son to Tane, placing Archie safely in his father’s care while she deals with Beau.

Even after Archie is with Tane, Harper discovers Beau has followed her using their shared locations app. His behaviour leaves Harper facing the reality of just how controlling their relationship has become.

Where is Tane now in Home and Away?

Tane’s current position brings his story back to the two people who have increasingly defined his life: Harper and Archie. His romance with Jo is over, while his relationship with Harper has developed from former partners and bitter custody opponents into a much stronger co-parenting partnership.

Harper turning to Tane when she needs somewhere safe for Archie demonstrates how far that relationship has come. Whatever has happened between them romantically, Harper knows Tane will protect their son when he needs him.

It also brings Tane’s story full circle in many ways. He spent years wanting a family, became deeply attached to Maia, acted as a father figure to Perri and eventually welcomed Archie after a difficult journey with Harper.

Now Tane is a father above all else. His impulsive streak has not disappeared and his determination to protect the people he loves has repeatedly brought serious consequences, but Archie has become the strongest constant in his life.

With Harper facing an increasingly dangerous situation involving Beau, Tane once again has every reason to put his family first.
