Wentworth Halfway Home Set for Twelve Shorter Episodes

The new Wentworth spin-off Wentworth: Halfway Home is expected to take a very different approach to episode length. Screen Australia's official production listing specifies 12 episodes running 18 minutes each, far shorter than the hour-long television slots familiar to viewers of the original prison drama.

The format is one of the clearest differences to emerge as fans await a confirmed premiere date.

How the New Format Compares With Wentworth

Screen Australia's listing for the original Wentworth records 100 episodes of approximately 45 minutes each, while its first series is listed as ten episodes of 52 minutes.

On that basis, Halfway Home is designed as a much shorter watch, with the entire twelve-part run totalling about 216 minutes of programme time.

A shorter format does not establish how the story will be paced or whether episodes will be released together or weekly.

What Story Will the Twelve Episodes Tell?

Katrina Milosevic returns as Susan ‘Boomer’ Jenkins, now on parole and trying to rebuild her life with her daughter Joey.

She moves into a halfway house, where a resident's death triggers a mystery and threatens everything Boomer hopes to regain. Nicole da Silva and Kate Box also reprise their roles as Franky Doyle and Lou Kelly.

The move from a prison setting into a shared house full of former inmates introduces new pressures and loyalties.

Although the shorter episodes could change the viewing experience, the core premise remains a tense drama about whether Boomer can stay out of prison.
