The gay experiences inspiring AI pop star Nicola Nicoletti's music

AI-generated pop star Nicola Nicoletti might be a fictional character, but the emotions behind the music come from the personal experiences of the gay songwriter who created him. Those experiences have helped shape songs about love, relationships and the challenges of finding a connection with someone.

In an exclusive interview with SoapLandTV, Nicola's creator opened up about the response to the music and how listeners from different backgrounds have recognised something of their own lives in the lyrics. That connection has been one of the most rewarding and unexpected parts of developing the project.

"I write from my perspective and experiences as a gay man, yet so many people from different backgrounds, countries, faiths, and orientations are able to see themselves in my lyrics and that has truly been the most beautiful thing to see."

The Pride song that took months to write

One of the most personal releases is Like Anyone, a song written specifically for Pride that took approximately four or five months to complete. The creator spent that time developing the lyrics, returning to them repeatedly until they expressed what was intended.

That lengthy writing process contrasts with Can't Hate You, which took around 30 minutes to write. While some songs arrive almost fully formed, others require months of work, and Like Anyone remains one of the releases the creator feels particularly proud of.

Another important song is Perfect's Overrated, which became Nicola's most popular release. Together, the songs reflect different stages of a project that began in June 2025, when the creator first discovered AI music and started experimenting with the technology.

Finding a connection with listeners

Although Nicola's voice and appearance are generated using AI, the lyrics originate from the creator's own thoughts and experiences. The creator writes the songs before using music-generation tools to develop the vocals and arrangements, maintaining control over the words and creative direction.

What has been particularly surprising is how personally listeners have responded to those songs, with some contacting the creator to explain that the lyrics helped them through difficult experiences. For someone who initially began experimenting with AI music out of curiosity, the emotional response has been unexpected.

"I think just the fact that so many people have connected to my words. I’d never imagined I could write lyrics at all, much less lyrics that people would identify with."

The connection has extended beyond LGBTQ+ listeners, something the creator has found especially rewarding. People from different countries, faiths and sexual orientations have shared their responses, showing how songs drawn from one person's experiences can resonate with people whose lives may be very different.

A new release on 30 October

Nicola's next project, Resonance: Volume One, arrives on Friday 30 October 2026, bringing another of the creator's personal influences into the music. Having spent years living abroad and developing an appreciation for different languages and cultures, the creator has reimagined existing songs using inspiration from French chanson, bolero, fado and other romantic musical traditions.

The release features 13 reimagined songs and an additional track presenting an English translation of a song previously available only in Spanish. It continues Nicola's multilingual approach, with the wider catalogue featuring music in English, Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese.

For those discovering Nicola for the first time, Like Anyone offers an introduction to the personal LGBTQ+ experiences behind the music. Meanwhile, Resonance: Volume One provides another opportunity to hear how the creator's life and interests continue to influence the virtual performer.

Nicola's music is available through Spotify, with further updates, new releases and music videos shared on Instagram. Fans can also find exclusive content and behind-the-scenes updates through Patreon.
