The Assassin Season Two Sees Freddie Highmore’s Honeymoon Turn Into a Nightmare
Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore return for The Assassin season two, with a dangerous honeymoon and another family reunion on Prime Video.
Freddie Highmore’s character Edward is hoping to put his family’s dangerous past behind him when The Assassin returns, but his honeymoon is interrupted by a new threat that forces him to seek help from the one person he has been trying to avoid.
Keeley Hawes reprises her role as Julie, a former professional assassin whose relationship with her son became increasingly complicated after he discovered the truth about her past. The second series takes their story into Spain’s criminal underworld, where another dangerous situation threatens to pull them further apart.
The six-part thriller, created by brothers Harry and Jack Williams, is scheduled to return to Prime Video UK on Friday 6 November 2026.
Why Have Julie and Edward Fallen Out?
The first series introduced Julie living on a Greek island, where she had built a secluded life after leaving her former career behind. Her plans were disrupted when Edward arrived searching for answers about his father, unaware that his mother had once worked as a professional killer.
Their reunion exposed secrets Julie had concealed for years, drawing both characters into a dangerous situation involving people connected to her past.
Although they survived those events, their relationship remains strained when the second series begins. Another disastrous trip, this time to Northern Europe, has left them estranged, with neither willing to explain precisely what happened.
Julie has returned to aspects of her former life, while Edward is attempting to move forward with Kayla, played by Shalom Brune-Franklin.
A Honeymoon Takes a Dangerous Turn
Edward and Kayla’s honeymoon is interrupted by a mysterious threat, leaving Edward with little choice but to contact his mother.
Their reunion draws them into a dangerous criminal network operating in Spain, with the new story featuring kidnapping, international crime and confrontations that put their lives at risk.
However, the conflict between mother and son remains central to the series. Edward continues to struggle with the consequences of Julie’s former career, while Julie’s attempts to protect him often create further difficulties.
The unexplained events of their Northern European trip also provide another mystery, raising questions about what caused their latest falling-out and whether they can repair their relationship.
Who Returns for Season Two?
Hawes and Highmore return alongside Shalom Brune-Franklin as Kayla and Devon Terrell as Ezra.
New cast members include Natalia Tena, Arnaud Binard, Boris Van Severen, Jacqueline Boatswain and Monic Hendrickx.
The series was filmed in Malta, with Terry McDonough directing the opening three episodes and Sarah O’Gorman directing the remaining instalments.
