Sunny Hostin licenses her likeness for AI film and TV projects

Sunny Hostin, the American lawyer, author and longtime co-host of ABC’s The View, has licensed her image and likeness to AI entertainment company Fountain 0 for potential future film and television projects

Fountain 0 develops productions using generative AI alongside more traditional filmmaking methods. Under the agreement, Sunny is working with the company on possible screen adaptations connected to her own books and creative projects.

The most interesting part of the deal is the question of control. Much of the debate around AI performers has focused on actors being digitally recreated without permission, but Sunny is choosing to license her likeness and remain involved in how it is used.

Her Summer Beach book series is among the work that could potentially be developed for the screen. A licensed digital version of Sunny could also appear within future projects, depending on how individual productions are developed.

Sunny has spoken positively about the potential for AI to reduce some of the cost involved in producing film and television. She has also suggested that lower production barriers could create more opportunities for stories and characters that may struggle to attract traditional studio funding.

The agreement does not mean Fountain 0 has unrestricted use of her identity. The partnership is based around projects Sunny is involved with, putting consent and creative ownership at the centre of the arrangement.

That makes this an interesting example of how AI could develop within entertainment. Instead of performers simply being replaced or recreated without approval, some may decide to license controlled digital versions of themselves for specific productions.

For Sunny, the technology could provide another route for bringing her existing stories to the screen. For the wider industry, deals like this may become an important test of whether AI likeness licensing can work in a way that gives performers genuine control over how their digital identity is used.
