Spotify Gives Meta’s Muse Control of Playlists, Podcasts and Listening
Meta’s Muse can now use Spotify to create playlists, find podcasts and audiobooks and automatically start listening sessions.
Spotify has connected with Meta’s new Muse personal AI agent, giving users another way to find music, build playlists and control what they listen to through ordinary conversation.
Once Spotify is connected, Muse can play music, save songs to a library, find podcasts and audiobooks and create entirely new playlists. A user can ask for a particular type of music, have Muse name the playlist and then add the tracks it discovers without manually working through Spotify.
The integration goes further than simply searching for something to play. Muse can also use information about a person’s plans to help organise listening around what they are doing.
Someone planning a road trip could ask for a playlist inspired by their destination and have it start when the journey begins. A regular morning run or a period set aside for focused work could also be paired with music automatically.
Podcasts and audiobooks are included as well. Users can ask Muse to find something they want to hear and then play it through Spotify, rather than searching through the service themselves.
Spotify is also connecting Muse with its Personal Podcast feature. This allows material such as notes, briefings and ideas to be turned into audio that can then appear in a user’s Spotify library.
Muse is what Meta describes as a personal AI agent. Unlike a basic chatbot that mainly responds to questions, an AI agent can carry out actions across connected services after a user gives it permission.
For entertainment, that distinction is becoming increasingly important. AI systems are beginning to move from simply recommending a song, film or event towards actually arranging what happens next.
The change could also affect how audiences discover entertainment. Instead of opening several apps and searching each one separately, people may increasingly describe what they want and allow an AI agent to find, organise and start it for them.
