Wentworth Returns to Australian TV in November as All Eight Seasons Get Rerun

Wentworth is returning to Australian television on Wednesday 11 November, with every episode of the acclaimed prison drama becoming available again ahead of the arrival of its long-awaited spin-off.

Foxtel has confirmed that the original series will return through its More Pop-Up Hits Channel 129 and streaming service BINGE, allowing viewers to revisit the stories of Bea Smith, Franky Doyle, Boomer Jenkins and the other women who made the drama an international success.

The announcement comes as excitement builds for Wentworth: Halfway Home, which will continue Boomer's story five years after the original series ended, with several familiar characters returning for a new chapter outside the prison walls.

Wentworth returns with every episode available

The original Wentworth premiered in Australia in 2013, reimagining the much-loved television drama Prisoner for a new generation before becoming one of the country's most successful international television exports.

Across eight seasons, the series explored the lives of women inside Wentworth Correctional Centre, combining complicated friendships, rivalries, relationships and struggles for survival.

Its prominent LGBTQ+ characters and relationships, particularly those involving Franky Doyle, also helped establish a devoted queer audience around the world.

The drama concluded in October 2021, but its popularity has continued through streaming services and international broadcasts, with the series reaching audiences in more than 170 territories.

Australian viewers will now have another opportunity to revisit the complete story from 11 November, although the date applies to the original programme rather than the premiere of the new spin-off.

Boomer, Franky and Lou return in new Wentworth series

The revival of the original drama comes shortly after the first footage from Wentworth: Halfway Home was released on Monday 26 October, confirming the direction of the new series and introducing several additional cast members.

Katrina Milosevic returns as Susan 'Boomer' Jenkins, who has finally been released from prison and is determined to rebuild her life while fighting to regain custody of her daughter.

However, her hopes of a fresh start are threatened when a body is discovered at the halfway house where she is living, drawing her into another dangerous situation involving former prisoners and unresolved rivalries.

Nicole da Silva also returns as Franky Doyle, alongside Kate Box as Lou Kelly, bringing three familiar characters into a story that explores the difficulties of rebuilding a life after imprisonment.

The new cast includes Rachel Griffiths, Nadine Garner, Sophie Lowe and Elaine Crombie, with the drama moving beyond Wentworth's prison walls while retaining the tense relationships that made the original series so popular.

Wentworth spin-off is also coming to the UK

British viewers will also be able to watch the new series, with broadcaster 5 securing the UK rights under the title Wentworth: Beyond Bars.

The acquisition was confirmed on Thursday 29 October, with the broadcaster planning to show the drama before the end of 2026, although an exact premiere date has not yet been announced.

In Australia, the production will retain the title Wentworth: Halfway Home and is scheduled to premiere on BINGE and Foxtel later this year.

The different titles refer to the same production, meaning British audiences will follow Boomer's new life alongside the returning characters and newly introduced residents.

For now, the next confirmed date belongs to the original Wentworth, which becomes available again in Australia on 11 November, giving viewers an opportunity to revisit the prison drama before its next chapter begins.
