Seabreeze Reveals Ava's Betrayal as Emma Opens Up to Lily

In Seabreeze Season 1, Episode 3, titled Apparently We’re Making Friends, Emma begins opening up to Lily about the losses behind her move to the coast.

A tender conversation reveals how the death of Emma’s twin sister Jess was followed by the discovery that her partner Ava had been unfaithful. As Emma struggles with grief and broken trust, Lily offers her something she has been missing: the freedom to speak without being judged.

Lily and Emma acknowledge their growing closeness

At Emma’s home, Lily tells her she enjoys spending time with her and does not expect her to pretend she is fine. Even Rye, who has been reluctant to approach anyone other than Emma since Jess died, seems comfortable with Lily.

When they meet again, Lily apologises for touching Emma’s knee without asking first. Emma explains that Lily did nothing wrong; she has simply been withdrawing from people. Their easy conversation continues, and they arrange another walk.

Emma explains what happened with Ava

A telephone call from Ava, initially about a gallery catalogue, soon turns personal. Emma makes it clear that she is not ready to discuss their former relationship. Later, she explains to Lily why the call was so difficult.

Ava supported Emma at the hospital after Jess’s accident. But six weeks after her sister died, Emma discovered a message revealing that Ava had been seeing someone else: Harper, a photographer. The betrayal left Emma unable to remain in their shared home, while her grief had already made painting and sleeping difficult.

Emma moved because she wanted somewhere nobody had watched her become the person others felt they had to treat carefully.

A friendship takes shape

Emma remembers Jess through small details, including a childhood birthday ritual and an orange scarf her sister wore despite its holes. Lily listens without demanding explanations and reminds Emma that Ava’s help at the hospital does not cancel out the betrayal that followed.

Worried that she has revealed too much, Emma falls quiet. Lily responds by saying she wants to be Emma’s friend, and Emma agrees. It is a modest but meaningful moment of connection, without any promise yet of romance.
