Offside Hearts brings rivalry and romance to women's football in new GL series
Offside Hearts follows Maya and Ava, two footballers whose rivalry turns into something more. Here is what to know about Velmora GL's sapphic series.
Velmora GL has taken its latest sapphic series onto the football pitch, and Offside Hearts has quickly become an early hit for the small channel.
The story follows Maya and Ava, two players with very different approaches to the game. A rookie steps up to the top level of women's football and finds herself playing alongside a legendary midfielder she once admired, and what begins as rivalry, pride and competition slowly turns into feelings neither of them can ignore.
Velmora GL describes Offside Hearts as a story about ambition, pressure and trust, and about becoming your own person. As the pressure builds on and off the pitch, Maya and Ava have to decide what they want, what they are willing to risk and whether love and ambition can sit side by side.
The channel has taken an unusual route with the release. Episodes 1 to 10 premiered together on 24 September as early access for channel members, while everyone else can follow the story episode by episode on YouTube Shorts. That first compilation has passed 60,000 views, far above the channel's usual numbers for a page with fewer than 8,000 subscribers in late September. Velmora GL also says it drew on viewer comments and votes while shaping the story.
The series has moved quickly since then. Episodes 21 to 40, released to members on 11 October, are billed as the final chapter, so Maya and Ava's story is now heading towards its ending.
With the final chapter now out, viewers will soon find out whether Maya and Ava can hold on to both their careers and each other.
