Newport Makes LGBT History as First UK Pride Comes to Wales
Newport will host the first ever UK Pride held in Wales on 5 September 2026, with a parade, Ginny Lemon, Fenix, a Queer Market and community events.
Newport is preparing to make LGBT history on Saturday 5 September as Pride in the Port hosts the first ever UK Pride to be held in Wales. The city centre celebration will bring together a Pride parade, live entertainment, community organisations, family activities and a dedicated Queer Market.
Pride in the Port was founded in 2022 with the aim of creating a visible and welcoming LGBT community in Newport. Hosting UK Pride just four years later marks a significant milestone for the organisation and gives the city an opportunity to welcome visitors from across Wales and the wider UK.
UK Pride comes to Newport
This year’s message is Caru Casnewydd, Croeso Pawb, meaning Love Newport, Welcome All. The celebration will begin in the city centre, with the Pride parade setting off from John Frost Square at 11am.
Joining the parade does not require a ticket, while entry to the main Riverfront event is free but ticketed. Organisers have also created a full Pride Guide covering the day’s entertainment, activities and practical information for visitors.
Ginny Lemon will headline the main stage alongside Fenix, with a wider programme of performers appearing throughout the day. The Riverfront programme begins at 11am, with last entry currently listed as 8.30pm.
A historic Pride for Wales
UK Pride is hosted by a different Pride organisation and gives local communities the chance to bring their work to a national audience.
For Pride in the Port, that means a relatively young community organisation will be at the centre of one of the biggest dates on the UK Pride calendar. It also puts Newport firmly on the map as LGBT communities continue building new events, spaces and networks across Wales.
