More Than 1,300 AI Movies Show How Fast the Technology Is Spreading
More than 1,300 AI films have entered a Lagos festival showcasing how creators are using generative technology to make movies and music videos.
More than 1,300 AI films have been submitted to a single festival, showing just how quickly filmmakers are experimenting with generative technology.
The Naija Artificial Intelligence Film Festival is taking place in Lagos, bringing together movies and music videos made using a growing range of AI filmmaking tools.
Creators are putting AI filmmaking tools to work

Not every entry has been completely generated by AI. Some filmmakers are using the technology for individual parts of production, while others are building much more of their finished films with it.
Creators are required to disclose the AI tools they used and explain how they contributed to their projects, providing a useful look at how the technology is actually entering the filmmaking process.
The event also includes demonstrations and discussions around generative cinema and AI storytelling, including a virtual demonstration of Google Flow, Google’s AI filmmaking tool.

The number of submissions is what makes the event particularly notable. More than 1,300 projects have been created for one specialist festival as filmmakers experiment with technology that can now help generate video, images, characters and other elements of a production.
With its AI_FRICA theme, the festival is also putting African creators at the centre of that experimentation and showing how generative filmmaking tools are reaching creators far beyond Hollywood.
