Mollie Gallagher Begins Exciting New Chapter After Coronation Street Exit

Mollie Gallagher’s time as Nina Lucas is coming to an end as Coronation Street prepares to air her departure from Weatherfield soon, bringing almost seven years on the cobbles to a close since her first appearance in November 2019.

Nina leaves Weatherfield for Whitby after securing a new job at an art gallery, providing a positive reason for the character to begin a life away from the Street. When the time comes to say goodbye, Roy drives Nina away in his distinctive green car as she heads towards her new home and career.

It is a fitting departure for a character whose creativity and gothic identity have been part of Nina from the beginning. Whitby, with its famous connections to gothic culture, also feels like a particularly appropriate destination for her.

Mollie joined Coronation Street in 2019 as Roy’s niece and quickly established Nina as much more than her distinctive appearance. Her relationship with Roy became one of the strongest family connections of her time on the show, while Mollie was also handed some hugely challenging storylines.

Nina’s hate crime storyline with Seb became one of her defining stories and earned Mollie the Serial Drama Performance award at the 2021 National Television Awards.

Nina also became an important LGBTQ+ character on the cobbles, with her former relationship with Asha becoming a significant part of both characters’ stories. Although their relationship has since ended, Asha remains an important connection in Nina’s Weatherfield life.

Mollie Gallagher takes on a very different role

While Nina is heading to Whitby, Mollie is already embarking on an exciting new chapter of her own with her professional stage debut.

She is playing FBI trainee Clarice Starling in the world stage premiere of The Silence of the Lambs, a very different role from the character viewers have watched her play for almost seven years.

Mollie stars alongside John Partridge as Hannibal Lecter in the production, which opened at Leicester’s Curve before embarking on a UK and Ireland tour.

Taking on such an iconic character gives Mollie an opportunity to show audiences another side of her acting after spending much of her professional career in Weatherfield.

Nina’s departure also leaves the character with plenty of connections to Coronation Street should the opportunity for a future return ever arise. Her move to Whitby is for a new career rather than an irreversible goodbye, while Roy and other people important to her remain on the cobbles.

For now, however, this is the beginning of something new for both Nina and Mollie. SoapLandTV wishes Mollie the very best of luck with The Silence of the Lambs and with everything that comes next.

Tour dates, venues and ticket information can be found on the official The Silence of the Lambs website.
