KISS Reveal What Really Happened Behind the Scenes of Their Final Tour in New Documentary

KISS are opening the doors to their final world tour in a new two-part documentary that promises previously unseen footage, backstage struggles, health scares and the emotional conclusion to 50 years of spectacular live performances.

KISS: End of the Road premieres online on 19 November 2026, taking viewers behind the elaborate costumes, pyrotechnics and stadium productions that made the band one of rock music’s most recognisable acts. The documentary also explores what comes next for KISS, including plans to continue performing through digital avatars.

Inside KISS’s Final World Tour

Directed by DJ Viola and produced by Leslie Greif, the documentary follows Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer through the closing stages of their End of the Road World Tour.

The 250-show farewell began in Vancouver in January 2019 and was originally intended to conclude earlier, before the COVID-19 pandemic forced postponements. The tour eventually finished with two concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York on 1 and 2 December 2023.

Rather than concentrating solely on the performances, the film examines the challenges of maintaining one of rock’s most demanding live productions, including technical problems, health concerns and disagreements behind the scenes.

The trailer includes footage of Simmons performing while seated during a concert in Brazil after experiencing dehydration, as well as preparations for the band’s final New York performances.

Gene Simmons Explains Why KISS Had to Stop Touring

Simmons has spoken openly about the physical demands of performing in KISS, including wearing heavy costumes and platform boots, breathing fire and spending two hours on stage.

In the documentary trailer, he explains why the group wanted to finish touring before age affected the standard of their performances.

“There are plenty of bands who’ve stayed on stage too long,” Simmons says, before making clear that KISS did not want to follow that example.

Stanley has also described the farewell tour as a defining moment in the band’s history, explaining that the documentary allows audiences to experience previously unseen moments from their final concerts.

Director Viola says the film captures the band’s determination to improve their performances throughout the tour, even as the demands of travelling and performing became increasingly difficult.

Producer Greif, who has worked within the KISS world for three decades, describes the documentary as a record of the band’s final 50 shows rather than another retelling of their entire history.

KISS Are Planning a New Future With Digital Avatars

Although the End of the Road tour concluded in December 2023, KISS have not disappeared from live entertainment. The band have continued with occasional performances, including plans for unmasked appearances at KISS Kruise: Land-Locked in Vegas in November 2026.

Their longer-term plans include a digital avatar show being developed with Swedish entertainment company Pophouse, which acquired the band’s music catalogue, branding and likeness rights in a deal reportedly worth approximately $300 million in 2024.

The virtual performers were first introduced during the band’s final Madison Square Garden concert, with technology developed by Industrial Light & Magic.

A new immersive production is being planned for Las Vegas in 2028, potentially allowing audiences to experience a version of KISS without the original musicians returning to conventional touring.

The documentary explores how the group intends to preserve its legacy, making the farewell tour part of a wider transition rather than the end of KISS as an entertainment brand.
