Lumo Strengthens LGBTQ+ Pride Radio Partnership With New Sponsorship

British rail operator Lumo is strengthening its support for LGBTQ+ communities through an expanded partnership with Pride Radio, a broadcaster reaching listeners in 127 countries around the world.

The Newcastle-based train company has become the station’s official weather sponsor, supporting hourly weather updates while continuing a relationship that has already helped promote LGBTQ+ organisations across Britain.

The sponsorship follows a year of increased involvement in Pride events, community broadcasting and initiatives celebrating LGBTQ+ inclusion.

From Pride trains to international radio

Earlier in 2026, Lumo introduced a redesigned Pride train featuring the logos of several LGBTQ+ organisations, including Pride Radio, OUT North East, Edinburgh Pride and Glasgow’s Pride.

The specially designed train brings greater visibility to organisations supporting LGBTQ+ people, travelling along routes connecting major cities including London, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Lumo also donated £1,000 to support Pride Radio’s live coverage of Newcastle Pride, allowing listeners to experience the celebrations even if they could not attend in person.

The latest sponsorship extends that relationship into the station’s regular programming, making Lumo a familiar presence throughout the broadcasting day.

Supporting LGBTQ+ voices around the world

Pride Radio broadcasts on FM, DAB and online, alongside the Pride World Media app, reaching audiences well beyond its North East England home.

The station reports listeners in 127 countries, including 38 where LGBTQ+ identities or relationships face criminal penalties and seven where certain same-sex sexual activity can carry the death penalty.

For listeners who cannot easily access LGBTQ+ community spaces, international broadcasting can offer connection, representation and a sense of belonging.

Richard Salkeld, Lumo’s director of communications and partnerships, said the operator would continue championing LGBTQ+ inclusion, confirming that supporting community organisations would remain important throughout 2027.

Ben Lloyd, Pride Radio’s commercial manager, also welcomed the expanded relationship, praising Lumo’s understanding of the station’s work and the communities it serves.

The agreement gives Pride Radio additional commercial backing while extending a partnership that has already supported LGBTQ+ celebrations and community visibility.

With its Pride train continuing to travel across Britain and its sponsorship now featuring in regular radio broadcasts, Lumo is demonstrating how businesses can maintain visible LGBTQ+ partnerships throughout the year.
