Jet2 Warns of Storm Boelo Flight Delays From 24 to 26 October
Jet2 warns of possible Storm Boelo flight delays from 24 to 26 October. Find out what passengers should do and how to check their flights.
Jet2 has warned passengers travelling to and from the UK that their flights could be disrupted by Storm Boelo between Saturday 24 and Monday 26 October, as strong winds and heavy rain threaten parts of northern Britain.
The airline has confirmed that it intends to operate flights as close to schedule as possible, but deteriorating weather conditions could cause delays. Passengers are being told to check in as normal unless contacted directly by Jet2, with airline staff providing further information at airports.
The warning follows amber and yellow weather alerts issued by the Met Office, with Scotland expected to experience some of the strongest winds during the weekend.
What Has Jet2 Told Passengers?
Jet2 says its operations team is monitoring weather forecasts and airport conditions throughout the weekend to minimise disruption to passengers.
The airline has not announced a blanket cancellation of flights, and customers should continue following their original travel arrangements unless they receive updated instructions.
Anyone affected by changes will be contacted directly through text message, email or the Jet2 app. Passengers are encouraged to check their contact information through the Manage My Booking section of the airline's website.
Jet2 has also warned that customers may experience longer waits than usual, either in airport terminals or after boarding. Aircraft may be prepared for departure while crews wait for weather conditions to improve.
Where Will Storm Boelo Have the Greatest Impact?
The Met Office has issued an amber wind warning covering much of Scotland from 9pm on Saturday 24 October until 9pm on Sunday 25 October.
Strong winds and heavy rain could affect transport services, with exposed areas particularly vulnerable to severe gusts. Yellow weather warnings are also in place across other affected parts of the UK.
The conditions could disrupt flights even where an individual airport is not experiencing the strongest winds, particularly if aircraft arriving from other destinations are delayed.
However, Jet2 has not identified widespread confirmed cancellations in its general travel notice. Passengers should check their own flight rather than assume a particular airport or route is affected.
What Happens If Your Flight Is Delayed or Cancelled?
Passengers experiencing significant delays may be entitled to assistance from their airline, including refreshments, meals and accommodation where necessary.
If a flight is cancelled, passengers will generally be entitled to choose between a refund and alternative travel arrangements under applicable UK passenger rights rules.
Severe weather can be classed as an extraordinary circumstance, meaning fixed financial compensation may not be payable. However, that does not remove the airline's obligations to provide assistance and appropriate alternatives where the regulations apply.
Customers should retain relevant receipts and booking information if disruption causes additional expenses.
How to Check Your Flight
Passengers can check their journey using their flight number or route through Jet2's official travel information page. The airline recommends reviewing its updates before departure and following any instructions sent directly to their booking contact details.
Jet2 is continuing to monitor conditions through Monday 26 October and has said it will provide further information if flights are affected.
