Miranda Hart opens up about emotional TV comeback after Celebrity Traitors exit

Miranda Hart has opened up about what appearing on The Celebrity Traitors has meant to her after years away from television, admitting there were times when she feared she might never be able to return to the screen. The comedian was murdered during Friday night's episode of the BBC One series, bringing her time in the castle to an end just as she was becoming increasingly suspicious of those around her.

In an interview released by the BBC following her departure, Miranda reflected on her long battle with illness, the friendships she made during filming and the emotional farewell speech she never got to deliver. She also shared her delight at joining Leigh-Anne Pinnock for their memorable Big Mix moment, describing the experience as something she would happily do all over again.

Why was Miranda murdered on The Celebrity Traitors?

Miranda became the fifth Faithful to be murdered after Traitors Maya Jama, James Acaster and YouTuber King Kenny decided she posed too great a threat to their position in the game. James explained that Miranda had been closely watching the other contestants and was among those most likely to work out who the Traitors were, making her a dangerous person to keep around.

However, Miranda admitted that she had become distracted by her suspicions about fellow comedian Joanne McNally. Reflecting on her departure, she said she was "so cross" with herself for "wholly focusing on my Joanne issue", suggesting she felt she had overlooked other possibilities while concentrating on one person.

Despite those suspicions, Miranda had developed a close connection with her fellow contestants during filming. Joanne described her as "like the mother" of the group, reflecting the supportive role she had taken on within the castle even while attempting to work out who was deceiving everyone.

Miranda reflects on returning to television after illness

Beyond the competition itself, Miranda explained how much being part of The Celebrity Traitors meant to her personally. The comedian has previously spoken about living with Lyme disease, which affected her health and kept her away from television work for several years, making her appearance on the BBC series particularly significant.

Miranda admitted that she had "missed doing television so much" and reflected on the difficulties she experienced before feeling well enough to take on another major production. She described having travelled "a very hard road to get to a place after restricting long term illness", acknowledging that there had been moments when she questioned whether returning to television would ever be possible.

Her enthusiasm for the experience was clear when she was asked to reflect on her time in the castle. Despite being murdered before reaching the final stages, Miranda declared: "I absolutely LOVED it. Please can I do it again?!"

For viewers who have followed Miranda's career, the interview offers a personal insight into what returning to television has meant to her. Her appearance was not simply another entertainment project, but an opportunity to enjoy something she had missed during a difficult period of her life.

The emotional farewell Miranda never got to give

Being murdered rather than banished meant Miranda never had the opportunity to deliver a farewell speech at the Round Table, something she believes may have been for the best. Although the contestants had grown close during their time together, she suspected that having to say goodbye to everyone in person would have been particularly emotional.

"I think it's a good thing that I wasn't banished because my speech would have ended up being emotional and mushy," Miranda admitted, adding that "no doubt the floodgates would have opened."

Her comments reflect how much she valued the friendships formed during the competition, despite the suspicion and deception that form such an important part of the game. While her exit may have come earlier than she hoped, Miranda clearly left with fond memories of the people she met.

Big Mix with Leigh-Anne was another highlight

There were also plenty of lighter moments during Miranda's time on The Celebrity Traitors, including her memorable dance with former Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock. Their unlikely collaboration became one of the show's entertaining moments, with Miranda enthusiastically announcing the arrival of Big Mix.

The comedian had clearly enjoyed the experience, telling the BBC: "I love Leigh-Anne so much for making my Big Mix wish come true." The moment brought together two very different entertainers and gave viewers a glimpse of the fun taking place alongside the serious business of identifying the Traitors.

Miranda also admitted that she was intrigued when Michael Sheen suggested she might have been murdered in plain sight, revealing that she "did in part want that to be true". It would certainly have been a memorable way to leave the competition, although her actual departure came through the Traitors' private decision.

Despite her disappointment at leaving, Miranda's reflections suggest that simply being part of the programme was a personal achievement she will remember fondly. After years of uncertainty about her health and career, returning to a major television production was an experience she clearly treasured.

The Celebrity Traitors continues on BBC One, with episodes also available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
