Is Sophie returning to Coronation Street as fans call for comeback
Is Sophie returning to Coronation Street? Fans continue to call for her comeback as Brooke returns to a regular soap role in Hollyoaks.
Coronation Street fans are continuing to ask whether Sophie could eventually return to Weatherfield, almost seven years after she left the cobbles to begin a new life travelling abroad.
There is currently no confirmed Coronation Street return for Sophie, but the character remains a regular subject of ongoing discussion among viewers. Fans have questioned whether the Webster family could eventually be reunited with one of its absent daughters, while others have debated whether Sophie’s story still has somewhere new to go.
The subject has become particularly relevant again because Brooke is now back in a regular soap role. She currently plays Abigail in Hollyoaks, giving viewers their first chance in years to see her as part of an ongoing soap cast.
Brooke has also spoken recently about Sophie and the possibility of returning to Weatherfield. While she has not announced plans to reprise the role, she has made clear that Sophie remains a character she remembers fondly and has considered where she might be now.
Fans have been discussing exactly that question themselves. Recent conversations among Coronation Street viewers have included calls for Sophie to come back, with some arguing that Kevin and Sally having one of their daughters around again would give the Webster family another important connection to its past.

Others have pointed to how much Sophie would have missed during her years away. Not everyone is convinced a return is needed, however, with some viewers feeling Sophie’s time on the Street may already have reached its natural conclusion.
Sophie’s departure came after she had become increasingly frustrated with her life in Weatherfield. Debbie returned and gave Kevin and his children money from a family inheritance, suddenly giving Sophie the financial freedom to think seriously about what she actually wanted to do next.
At the same time, Sophie had been watching Kate’s travels through social media. Kate had already left Weatherfield and was exploring the world, and seeing what she was doing made Sophie increasingly tempted to escape her own routine.
Sophie was in a relationship with Paula at the time and initially hoped they could travel together. Paula ultimately recognised that Sophie needed to experience something different for herself and encouraged her to go, even though she would not be joining her.

Sophie then dropped her business management course and made the impulsive decision to fly to Cambodia to join Kate. Her final scenes aired on Wednesday 9th October 2019, bringing her long spell on the cobbles to an end without permanently closing the door on the character.
If Sophie did return now, she would find a Webster family that has changed considerably. Kevin is now with Abi, Sally remains with Tim, and Rosie is still away from Weatherfield after leaving in 2018 for a television opportunity in London.
Brooke originally stepped away from Coronation Street ahead of becoming a mum and later remained away from the programme as her family grew. Her decision to join Hollyoaks has now brought her back to regular soap acting, although that does not mean a Coronation Street comeback is currently being planned.
What keeps Sophie different from many former characters is that there is nothing within the story preventing her from returning. She did not die, disappear under mysterious circumstances or receive a definitive ending, and instead simply left Weatherfield to see more of the world.
That means the answer to whether Sophie is returning remains not yet rather than an outright no. There is no comeback announcement, but with fans still talking about her, Brooke back in regular soap acting and Sophie’s exit deliberately left open, the character remains available should Coronation Street ever decide it is time to bring her home.
