Is Ross trying to turn Tyrone against Fiz in Coronation Street?

Ross Wilkes is increasingly interfering in Tyrone Dobbs’ family life in Coronation Street, and his latest behaviour could finally push Fiz to demand answers.

Last week, Ross tried to persuade Tyrone and grandson Dorin to take up boxing. Neither enjoyed being pushed into the sport, while Ross reacted badly when Ruby expressed an interest in having lessons of her own.

Tyrone initially refused because he worried about Ruby getting hurt and believed boxing was not suitable for girls, but Hope challenged his attitude and he eventually agreed.

Ross’s attempts to influence Tyrone do not stop there. In upcoming scenes, Tyrone receives a message from Fiz asking him to pick up popcorn for their family film night. Ross tells him to ignore it, takes his phone and pressures him to stay out drinking.

Tyrone eventually returns home drunk, leaving Fiz furious. When he explains that Ross confiscated his phone, Fiz confronts her father-in-law and accuses him of deliberately ruining their family evening.

The reaction from viewers has already been impatient. In a discussion about the storyline, one fan asked: “Can Ross just be caught and leave?!”

That comment captures the frustration with Ross’s continued interference, although it does not establish what his ultimate motive is. He may believe he is pushing Tyrone to be more confident, but his methods are creating tension rather than helping his son.

There is an added complication in Tyrone’s history of domestic abuse. Ross’s insistence on toughness and his disregard for Tyrone’s wishes make the situation particularly uncomfortable, especially when his behaviour begins affecting Tyrone’s relationship with Fiz.

Fiz has now challenged Ross directly, but will he accept that he has crossed a line? Tyrone also needs to decide whether he will keep following his father’s lead or stand up for the family life he has built.

Could Ross’s behaviour finally backfire, or will he find another way to interfere?
