Is Coronation Street's Ross More Dangerous Than Anyone Realises?

Ross has been making his presence felt in Coronation Street, but viewers are divided over whether Tyrone's father is becoming one of the soap's most convincing villains or whether there is something far more sinister ahead.

His arrival has brought fresh complications for Tyrone, while his position as a prison officer has placed him close to Gary at a particularly vulnerable point. Now viewers are questioning whether Ross's ability to appear respectable could make him especially dangerous.

Could Ross Be Hiding in Plain Sight?

A discussion on Reddit has attracted contrasting opinions about Ross, with some viewers finding his understated behaviour more believable than the dramatic entrances often associated with soap villains.

One commenter wrote: “Ross is one of the more interesting characters because of his subtlety.”

Another disagreed, replying: “He's as subtle as a brick to the face.”

A third suggested Ross can conceal his intentions because people see him as old-fashioned and strict rather than recognising how threatening his behaviour might become.

The disagreement raises an interesting question. Is Ross simply an unpleasant man who enjoys exercising authority, or is Coronation Street gradually establishing a much bigger threat?

What Could Happen to Gary?

Gary's imprisonment creates an opportunity for Ross to exert influence away from the cobbles, particularly if Gary becomes dependent on his assistance.

Viewers are also questioning Ross's past and whether unresolved issues surrounding Cassie's disappearance could eventually catch up with him.

For now, Ross's position gives him access to situations where other characters may have little control. Whether he uses that influence to help Gary or to demand something in return could reveal far more about his intentions.

The question is whether Ross is about to become a familiar soap villain or someone whose greatest danger comes from appearing ordinary.
