Huge New LGBT Venue Chroma Is Opening Beside Tate Modern in London
Chroma is opening beside Tate Modern in London in spring 2027, bringing a new LGBT theatre, café-bar and creative space to the South Bank.
London is getting a major new permanent LGBT destination, with Chroma set to open beside Tate Modern in spring 2027.
Taking over railway arches at Bankside Yards on the South Bank, Chroma will bring together a 140-seat theatre, café-bar, community programming and affordable creative workspace in one location. Its position also puts it within walking distance of some of London’s biggest attractions.
What is Chroma?
The theatre will host LGBT artists across theatre, music, dance and film, while the venue will also be used for workshops, talks, classes and other daytime activities.

Thirty affordable desks will be available for LGBT creative professionals, while the fully licensed café-bar overlooking the riverside will be operated by an LGBT-owned independent business.

Chroma is being delivered by The Trampery, with Southwark Council providing £1.5 million towards the project. Its current official website confirms the venue is due to open in spring 2027.
The exact opening date and first programme are still to come, but Chroma could become one of London’s most interesting new LGBT destinations when those railway arches reopen with a very different purpose.
