How FDC is becoming part of a new wave of WLW storytelling

Faceless Design Collective has increasingly found itself connected with a new wave of WLW storytelling, where music, visual creation and online communities are coming together around characters and relationships audiences genuinely care about.

For creator Netty Neal, that connection has developed organically through projects including Icebreaker and HIGH TIDES. Both use newer forms of visual storytelling, but their appeal ultimately rests on something much more familiar: emotional investment in the characters.

Speaking exclusively to SoapLandTV, Netty said that this is one of the things she finds most interesting about the space. Audiences may be aware of the technology involved, but that is not what keeps them watching.

“People weren’t watching Ana and Noémie’s first kiss thinking about rendering technology,”

she said. Instead, viewers were focused on the relationship, the build-up and the emotional release of finally seeing the pair cross that line.

The same applies to Clara and Valerie in HIGH TIDES. Netty believes audiences are drawn to them because they recognise something familiar in the relationship, from longing and attraction to vulnerability, frustration, chemistry and love.

That emotional focus is also where music becomes especially important. FDC has already contributed to both worlds, with “When The Tide Turns” becoming closely associated with Ana and Noémie’s first kiss in Icebreaker, while Netty has also collaborated with Fernanda, aka @neuralafterglow, around HIGH TIDES.

For Netty, the role of music is not to tell viewers what they should feel, but to strengthen what the characters and story have already created. She explained that the right track can “amplify what is already sitting underneath the scene”, whether that is attraction, hesitation, tension, longing or release.

That has helped place FDC inside what Netty describes as an emerging ecosystem of WLW storytelling, AI-assisted visual creation, music and highly invested online communities. It is a space where independent creators can move between formats, build audiences directly and develop stories in ways that would once have required much larger production structures.

HIGH TIDES is a strong example of that evolution. The story began through chapters on Wattpad before finding a growing audience through Instagram and later expanding into long-form YouTube storytelling.

Icebreaker has followed its own route, building a dedicated audience around Ana and Noémie while showing how AI-assisted visual creation can still support emotionally grounded character work.

For Netty, the most important part is that the technology eventually fades behind the story. “Technology may be helping us create new ways to tell stories, but the thing that makes us care about them remains stubbornly, beautifully human.”

That idea also explains why FDC fits naturally within these projects. Netty’s music sits at the intersection of human emotion and new technology, making it particularly suited to stories that are themselves being created through emerging tools while remaining focused on recognisable relationships and feelings.

The growing response to Icebreaker and HIGH TIDES suggests there is real appetite for this kind of storytelling, particularly within WLW audiences looking for character-led stories that can grow directly through online communities.

For Faceless Design Collective, the connection has opened another path for the music to reach people. For the creators behind Icebreaker and HIGH TIDES, it has shown how the right soundtrack can deepen scenes without overpowering them.

Together, these projects point towards a creative space where new technology, independent storytelling and music can develop side by side, while the emotional core remains exactly where it has always been: with the characters and the people watching them.
