Home and Away’s Zane rejects Marilyn as prison return looms
Zane refuses Marilyn’s attempts to save him as a return to prison moves closer, leaving her questioning whether she pushed him too far.
Zane’s desperate attempt to return to prison leaves Marilyn heartbroken in Home and Away as she discovers that even her determination to fight for him may no longer be enough. After deliberately forcing his own arrest, Zane remains convinced that going back behind bars is exactly what he wants.
Marilyn immediately searches for a way to stop that happening and tries to find legal help. She also turns to David, but he makes it clear that Zane’s parole situation has moved beyond something that can simply be talked away, particularly after he deliberately assaulted a police officer.

The hardest blow comes when Marilyn is allowed to see Zane. She insists that she will stand by him through the good and the bad, but Zane rejects her attempts to fight for his freedom and tells her that he never deserved the kindness she showed him.
For Marilyn, his reaction only deepens her guilt. She begins blaming herself for encouraging Zane to contact Heidi and for contacting Austin when that attempt at reconciliation failed, believing those decisions helped push Zane towards the crisis that followed.
Mali tries to make her see that Zane had been struggling with life outside prison for much longer. His inability to adjust, his longing for the structure he previously knew and his belief that he does not deserve another chance have all been building beneath the surface.
With Zane refusing to change his mind and a prison return now looking increasingly difficult to avoid, Marilyn is left confronting a painful question. She wanted to prove that somebody could believe in him when he struggled to believe in himself, but Zane may ultimately be the one person she cannot persuade to give him another chance.
