Home and Away Theory: Is Sonny About to Lose Dana After Protecting Beau?

Sonny has only just become engaged to Dana, but the secret he is keeping from her is becoming increasingly serious. After refusing Remi’s demand that he confess his involvement in the steroid operation, Sonny goes even further by removing Beau’s drugs before police can find them at Summer Bay Fit.

It means Sonny is no longer simply keeping quiet about something he regrets becoming involved in. His decision actively prevents David and his officers from finding the evidence they are looking for, while Dana remains completely unaware of what her fiancé is doing.

Remi gives Sonny an opportunity to take responsibility before involving the police. He urges him to tell Dana about his steroid dealing, but Sonny refuses to come clean with the woman he has just agreed to marry.

Remi then follows through on his warning and goes to Cash. He formally identifies Beau as the person supplying illegal steroids, giving David enough information to secure an immediate search warrant for Summer Bay Fit.

Cash quickly senses that Remi may be withholding part of the story. Knowing Sonny spends plenty of time at the gym, he suspects there could be a connection, but Remi refuses to implicate his friend.

Sonny repays that protection by making an even more dangerous choice. He removes the steroids before the police arrive, ensuring the search of Summer Bay Fit comes up empty and leaving officers without the evidence they need against Beau.

Beau denies dealing drugs when Cash questions him and is eventually released. Remi quickly realises Sonny must have moved the steroids and confronts him, warning that the police will eventually work out who is involved.

Rather than accepting Remi’s concerns, Sonny feels betrayed that his friend went to the police. Yet Remi had already offered him another route by asking him to tell Dana himself, and Sonny chose not to take it.

That could become particularly important if Dana eventually discovers the truth. There is a significant difference between Sonny admitting that he became involved with Beau and Dana learning that he continued hiding the truth even after Remi gave him an opportunity to stop.

His actions after the police raid only increase that risk. Sonny returns to Summer Bay Fit and attempts to hide more steroids in his locker, where Tane confronts him over his association with Beau.

Sonny is therefore rapidly running out of people he can keep in the dark. Remi knows what he has been doing, Cash suspects there is more to his involvement and Tane now has his own reason to demand answers.

Dana remains the crucial exception. She has entered their engagement believing in the future they are planning together, and Sonny has repeatedly chosen not to tell her what is happening. His secrecy is particularly painful after Dana spoke so openly about trusting him and feeling lucky to be marrying her soulmate.

There is nothing in these events to confirm that Dana will end their engagement, so it would be premature to assume Sonny is definitely going to lose her. What Friday does establish is that the truth she may eventually have to confront is becoming considerably bigger.

Sonny could have confessed when Remi challenged him. Instead, he protected Beau, interfered with the police search and then returned to the gym with more steroids, creating another secret he may eventually have to explain.

If Dana does discover the full story, Sonny may find that the damage is not only about the steroids. The harder question could be why he continued choosing secrecy after they had committed to spending their future together.
