Naples Airport Shut Throughout November as UK Holidaymakers Face Flight Changes

British travellers heading to Naples, Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast this month face altered travel arrangements after Naples International Airport closed for 30 days.

The airport suspended flights on Sunday 1 November 2026 for major runway renovation work and is scheduled to remain closed until the end of the month. Some flights have been transferred to Salerno, but not every route has a replacement, leaving passengers needing to check their bookings before travelling.

Why Is Naples Airport Closed?

The closure allows airport operator GESAC to carry out extensive improvements to the runway, bringing it into line with aviation safety requirements.

The work was planned in advance and scheduled for November, when the region generally experiences fewer visitors than during its busy summer season.

However, Naples is an important arrival point for travellers visiting Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri and the Amalfi Coast, meaning the month-long shutdown could affect holidays across southern Italy.

Which Flights Have Moved to Salerno?

Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport is handling selected services to 15 destinations throughout November, with airlines including Ryanair, easyJet, Transavia, Vueling, Iberia and ITA Airways operating routes.

The replacement network includes flights to Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart, alongside services to Dubai, Casablanca and Sharm el-Sheikh.

Domestic connections include Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, Bergamo, Genoa, Turin and Trieste.

Importantly for British holidaymakers, no direct UK destinations appear on Salerno's published list of transferred flights. Passengers who originally booked flights to Naples should therefore check whether their service has been cancelled or moved elsewhere rather than assume it will operate from Salerno.

How Do You Get From Salerno to Naples?

Special bus services are operating between Salerno Airport and Naples Piazza Garibaldi, while additional buses connect the airport with Salerno railway station.

Existing services towards the Amalfi Coast, Battipaglia, Eboli and Potenza are being maintained, with fixed-fare shared taxis also available between Salerno Airport and the main railway stations in Naples and Salerno.

Travellers staying in Sorrento or other destinations beyond Naples should check their onward connections, as arriving at a different airport may involve extra transfers.

What If Your Flight Has Been Cancelled?

Passengers whose flights have been cancelled should contact their airline before booking replacement tickets.

For flights covered by UK passenger rights legislation, airlines must offer a choice between a refund and alternative travel arrangements. Additional compensation is not automatic and depends on the circumstances surrounding the cancellation.

Anyone who has booked flights and accommodation separately should also check whether changing their arrival airport will affect transfers or hotel arrangements.

When Will Naples Airport Reopen?

Naples Airport is scheduled to reopen on 1 December 2026, following the completion of the runway work.

Travellers can check official flight and transport arrangements for Salerno Airport and the UK Civil Aviation Authority's passenger rights guidance.
