Home and Away Theory: Is Harper Finally Seeing Beau’s True Colours?

Harper faces a frightening turning point in her relationship with Beau when his jealousy escalates into physical violence. After repeatedly trying to reassure him and make their relationship work, Harper is left shocked, hurt and frightened when Beau backhands her across the face.

The disturbing attack could force Harper to look at their relationship very differently. While the new scenes do not confirm what she ultimately decides to do about Beau, his behaviour has now moved beyond jealousy and accusations into something far more serious.

Tensions begin around Dana and Sonny’s engagement party after Harper suggests throwing a celebration for her younger sister. Beau is unhappy because he and Harper have only just managed to spend some time alone together, prompting Harper to apologise for not discussing her plans with him first.

Harper still wants to celebrate with Dana, and Beau’s attention soon turns towards Remi when he sees the pair talking privately at the party. He begins questioning Lacey about Remi and becomes increasingly interested in their interaction.

What Beau does not realise is that Remi has his own reasons for approaching Harper. He wants to establish how much she knows about Beau’s connection to Sonny and their “gym buddy” friendship, although Harper believes Remi’s interest could be motivated by jealousy.

Beau sees things differently. After leaving the party early, he asks Harper to meet him at Salt and accuses her of spending the evening chatting up the “millionaire guy”.

Harper tries to reassure Beau that he has nothing to be jealous about, and the pair initially agree to have a drink and move past their disagreement. By the following morning, however, it becomes clear that Beau has not let the issue go.

Harper acknowledges that she could have prioritised some time alone with him, but refuses to apologise for enjoying Dana’s engagement party. She stands her ground and points out that Dana is her baby sister, making it completely understandable that she wanted to celebrate such an important moment with her.

Beau then responds by backhanding Harper across the face. Harper is left frightened and hurt as an argument about her spending time with her sister and talking to Remi escalates into physical violence.

The assault could become a defining moment for Harper. She has attempted to compromise with Beau and reassure him, but his reaction when she refuses to accept his accusations leaves her confronting a much more disturbing side to their relationship.

It may also cause Harper to reconsider Beau’s earlier behaviour. His frustration over her plans, his fixation on Remi and his attempts to make her feel guilty about the engagement party now lead directly into an act of violence when Harper maintains her position.

There is no confirmation at this stage that Harper will end the relationship, so whether the attack becomes the moment she decides she has had enough remains a theory. What is clear is that Beau has crossed a serious line and Harper is frightened by what he has done.

Remi’s growing concerns could also become increasingly important. While Harper has misunderstood why he is asking questions, Remi already knows about Sonny’s involvement with Beau and is taking a much closer look at what is happening.

For Harper, however, the immediate issue is the man she has been trying to build a relationship with. Beau’s behaviour has escalated dramatically, and the attack could finally force Harper to question whether remaining with him is something she can safely accept.
