Home and Away Theory: Could Alf Be the One Who Exposes Sonny?

Sonny may have successfully kept Dana in the dark about his involvement with Beau, but somebody else in Summer Bay has already noticed that something is not quite right. Alf spots Sonny behaving unusually when he leaves his own engagement celebrations to secretly supply drugs to one of Beau’s clients.

Alf has no idea what Sonny is really doing, and there is nothing to suggest he currently suspects drugs are involved. However, the moment could become important if Sonny continues giving the people around him reasons to question his behaviour.

Alf notices Sonny at the worst possible moment

Sonny has just become engaged to Dana after their earlier proposal misunderstanding is finally resolved. With John, Mackenzie, Eden and Abigail joining the couple at Salt, Sonny should have no reason to be anywhere other than celebrating with his new fiancée.

Instead, one of Beau’s clients contacts him looking for drugs. Sonny reluctantly leaves the celebration to complete the transaction, forcing him to conceal the real reason for his sudden departure from Dana and everyone around them.

It is during this situation that Alf notices Sonny acting unusually. The moment is small compared with the drug deal itself, but it establishes that Sonny’s behaviour is no longer passing completely unnoticed.

Sonny’s secret is becoming harder to contain

The danger for Sonny is that Beau’s operation is beginning to intrude directly into his everyday life. He cannot simply keep what he is doing separate from Dana when clients are contacting him during important personal moments.

That creates plenty of opportunities for other people to notice inconsistencies. Sonny may be able to explain one unexpected disappearance, but repeatedly behaving strangely could eventually invite questions from people who know him well.

Alf does not need to immediately work out the truth for his observation to matter. If he notices Sonny behaving similarly again, what initially seems like an isolated incident could begin to look more significant.

Could Alf start asking questions?

There is currently no evidence that Alf intends to investigate Sonny, so any suggestion that he will expose the drug operation remains firmly a theory. What Monday’s events do establish is that Alf has noticed something unusual before Dana has discovered what her fiancé is hiding.

That potentially places him in an interesting position. Sonny has much more to protect following the engagement, while Alf is now one of the people who could recognise if his behaviour continues to change.

Sonny is also dealing with a secret involving Beau rather than something he can resolve entirely by himself. As long as Beau’s clients continue turning to him, Sonny risks being pulled away from Dana again and creating more moments that require explanations.

Would Alf tell Dana if he became suspicious?

If Alf eventually had genuine reason to believe Sonny was in trouble, keeping quiet would be difficult to imagine, particularly when Dana is planning to marry him. That does not mean Alf is currently anywhere close to uncovering the truth, but his first observation could become more meaningful if Sonny continues down the same path.

Dana currently believes she and Sonny are beginning their future together after overcoming the confusion surrounding her proposal. She has no reason to know that Sonny is secretly carrying out transactions for Beau while they celebrate.

Sonny therefore has an opportunity to step away before Alf, Dana or anybody else discovers what he is doing. But the longer he remains involved, the more people he risks drawing into a secret that is already becoming difficult to hide.

For now, Alf has simply noticed Sonny behaving strangely. Whether that becomes the first step towards the truth coming out will depend on what Sonny does next, but it is an early warning that his double life may already be showing.
