Home and Away Sonny lands surprise new job as fresh start begins
Home and Away’s Sonny takes a major step towards rebuilding his life when Mackenzie unexpectedly offers him a job at Salt after Remi moves in.
Sonny finally gets a genuine opportunity to rebuild his life in Home and Away when Mackenzie unexpectedly gives him a job at Salt. After losing Dana and becoming increasingly isolated from the community, the offer gives him something positive to focus on beyond the damage caused by Beau.
Remi has already made his support clear by moving into Sonny’s place and declaring himself his new flatmate. He brushes aside Sonny’s concerns about what the decision might do to his relationship with Tane and promises to help with the rent while Sonny gets back on his feet.
The pair continue working on Sonny’s CV together, with Remi agreeing to act as a reference based on their past work at an independent record label. It is another sign that Sonny is attempting to turn good intentions into something practical rather than simply promising everyone he has changed.
Tane then arrives to collect Harper and Archie’s passports, creating an uncomfortable reminder of everything Sonny has lost. He refuses to acknowledge Sonny at all, making clear that the hostility between them remains firmly in place despite Remi’s efforts to calm the situation.
Later, Sonny and Remi head to the Surf Club, where Mali updates them about Eden’s condition. Remi is stunned to learn that she has already left hospital and realises how disconnected he has become from his best friend while dealing with Sonny’s crisis.
Sonny eventually finds himself at Salt while Mackenzie is struggling with staff shortages and the pressures surrounding Eden’s illness. Instead of standing back, he asks if he can help and manages to persuade her to give him a chance.
Mackenzie agrees and tells Sonny he is hired.
The job does not erase his mistakes or magically repair his relationships, but it offers something Sonny desperately needs: structure, responsibility and an opportunity to prove himself through actions rather than apologies.
Tane may still want nothing to do with him and Dana remains gone, but Sonny is finally beginning to build something from the wreckage. His next challenge will be showing Summer Bay that this new start lasts longer than the promises that came before it.
