Home and Away: Sonny Baldwin collapses at Salt as desperate money plan fails
Home and Away sees Sonny Baldwin collapse during a trial shift at Salt as his desperate attempt to repay Beau Hammond leaves Dana Matheson alarmed.
Home and Away UK viewers will see Sonny Baldwin collapse during a trial shift at Salt after his desperate attempt to raise money for Beau Hammond goes badly wrong. Sonny remains determined to hide the real reason he needs cash from Dana Matheson, but his effort to prove he can work ends with him falling to the floor as his legs give way.
Sonny begins by creating another explanation for his recent confrontation with Remi. He tells Dana that the argument happened because he owes Remi a few hundred dollars, carefully avoiding any mention of Beau or the pressure surrounding the real debt.
Dana immediately offers to cover the money. Sonny refuses, insisting that he needs to earn it himself rather than relying on her.
His determination appears admirable from Dana’s perspective. She believes Sonny is trying to regain his independence after everything his health has put him through, but the truth is far more urgent. Beau expects payment, and Sonny knows he cannot keep delaying him.
Justin cannot offer Sonny a job
Sonny approaches Justin and asks whether there is any work available. Justin is sympathetic but admits that the garage is struggling financially and he can barely cover his own wage.
The rejection leaves Sonny without an obvious solution, but he refuses to give up. He quickly turns his attention to Salt and asks Mackenzie for a chance to prove himself.
Sonny offers to complete a trial shift and appears willing to take on whatever work is needed. His first task involves collecting a delivery from downstairs, but Mackenzie and Levi are immediately concerned about how much time the job will keep him on his feet.
Their concern is based on Sonny’s recovery rather than a lack of faith in him. Both understand that a busy shift at Salt could place more strain on his body than he is ready to handle.
Sonny remains confident that he can manage. He needs the job to work, not only because of the money, but because admitting defeat would force him back towards Dana’s offer.
Dana believes Sonny wants independence
Dana arrives and discovers that Sonny has changed direction again by seeking work at Salt. Levi takes a walk with her and suggests that Sonny’s concern may be less about the money itself and more about wanting to feel independent.
He gently encourages Dana to consider stepping back. Sonny may need the opportunity to solve a problem for himself rather than feeling that she is always ready to rescue him.
The advice makes sense based on what Dana has been told. She does not know that Sonny is facing pressure from Beau or that the money is tied to a much more serious situation.
Dana therefore gives Sonny the space he appears to be asking for. The decision allows him to continue the trial, but it also means the real danger remains hidden.
Sonny impresses Mackenzie
Sonny throws himself into the shift and appears determined to show that he can cope. He even charms Amelia when she arrives at Salt and is introduced to Mackenzie as the doctor taking over from Levi.
For a while, Sonny believes he has succeeded. He is proud that Mackenzie appears convinced by his efforts, and the trial gives him hope that he may finally have found a way to raise the money.
His confidence lasts until the end of the evening.
Dana walks into Salt just as Sonny’s legs begin to feel tired and weak. He loses his balance and falls to the floor, smashing plates as he goes.
The collapse confirms the fears Mackenzie and Levi expressed earlier. Sonny may want to return to work, but his body is clearly not ready for the demands of a busy shift.
Mackenzie feels guilty about what happened, but she has to place Sonny’s safety first. She ends the trial rather than risk another fall or a more serious injury.
Sonny finally accepts Dana’s money
Back at home, Sonny is defeated. His plan to earn the money himself has failed, and Beau’s demand remains hanging over him.
Dana again offers to help. This time Sonny accepts, promising that he will repay every cent.
Dana believes she is covering the debt Sonny claimed he owed Remi. She has no reason to know that the money is actually connected to Beau.
Once he is alone, Sonny sends Beau a private message confirming that he has the cash.
The message reveals the full cost of Sonny’s latest lie. Dana has stepped in because she loves him and wants to help, but he has taken her money without telling her who it is really for.
Will Dana discover where her money went?
Sonny may believe the immediate crisis is over, but accepting Dana’s money creates another problem.
If Dana speaks to Remi about the supposed debt, she could quickly discover that the story was false. Remi already knows Sonny has been searching for cash and has warned him against involving anyone else.
There is also no guarantee that paying Beau will end the pressure. Beau has already used the debt to control Sonny’s choices, and receiving money from Dana may only encourage him to demand more.
Sonny’s collapse also makes it harder for Dana to accept his insistence that everything is under control. She has now seen the physical consequences of him pushing himself beyond his limits, yet he continues refusing to explain why the money matters so much.
It would not be surprising if Dana begins checking the details for herself. Her support has given Sonny what he needs for the moment, but it has also placed her directly inside the secret he was trying to keep from her.
