Alanis Morissette has publicly revealed that she is pansexual, sharing the news during a light-hearted conversation about her music, relationships and sexuality.

The 52-year-old Canadian-American singer, best known for hits including Ironic, You Oughta Know and Hand in My Pocket, made the revelation during an appearance on the Handsome podcast, released on 3 November 2026.

The podcast is hosted by comedians Tig Notaro and Fortune Feimster alongside British-Canadian comedian and actor Mae Martin, who identifies as non-binary.

Alanis Morissette Shares Her Sexuality

The conversation turned to Morissette’s famous heartbreak songs, particularly those from her hugely successful 1995 album Jagged Little Pill.

Feimster joked that although she felt sorry for the men who had hurt the singer, she was grateful for the music those experiences inspired.

She then asked whether those relationships had ever made Morissette consider becoming a lesbian.

Morissette casually replied: “I’m pansexual, so yeah.”

A surprised Notaro asked whether she was serious, prompting the singer to confirm that she was.

When the hosts joked that she should have opened the interview with such a personal revelation, Morissette responded: “I like to leave it for the epilogue.”

The exchange was particularly memorable because Morissette was the podcast’s first-ever in-person guest.

What Does Being Pansexual Mean?

Pansexuality generally describes romantic or sexual attraction to people regardless of their gender. For pansexual people, gender does not determine who they may find attractive.

The term overlaps with bisexuality, which describes attraction to more than one gender. Importantly, bisexuality is not restricted to attraction to men and women, and both identities can include attraction to transgender and non-binary people.

Morissette has previously spoken about exploring her sexuality, including in a 2008 interview when she discussed her experiences with women.

She also appeared in a memorable 2000 episode of Sex and the City, sharing an on-screen kiss with Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw.

Now, more than three decades after Jagged Little Pill made her an international star, Morissette has shared another personal part of her life with listeners.

The seven-time Grammy Award winner has been married to musician Mario ‘Souleye’ Treadway since 2010, and the couple have three children.
