Home and Away sees Sonny caught between Dylan’s secrets and his own

Sonny wants to help his younger brother Dylan break free from the expectations placed on him, but his own complicated life makes it difficult to insist on honesty in Home and Away.

Dylan arrives in Summer Bay after leaving his job in Western Australia, a decision he has kept from their parents. When Sonny jokes about his brother being the golden boy of the family, Dylan reacts angrily and admits that he is tired of always being the responsible one.

He wants a gap year filled with adventure and asks Sonny to help him make the most of it. Sonny agrees, offering Dylan a place to stay and handing over the keys so his brother can begin a different chapter of his life.

There is, however, a catch. Sonny insists that Dylan explain why he has been lying to their parents, arguing that he needs to understand what has happened before helping him. Dylan pushes back, reminding Sonny that he has covered for his brother in the past without demanding explanations.

The exchange exposes an uncomfortable double standard. Sonny expects Dylan to open up, yet he has no intention of revealing everything about his own circumstances.

He has recently broken up with Dana, while also dealing with a spinal injury and the aftermath of a steroid addiction. Sonny asks Remi to help him get through to Dylan, but makes it clear that his own secrets must remain hidden.

Remi points out the contradiction: Sonny wants his brother to be honest while expecting everyone around him to protect his privacy. Sonny brushes off the concern, treating his own problems as something that can be dealt with later.

Meanwhile, Dylan’s attention is increasingly focused on Lacey. After their initial connection is interrupted by his complicated family situation, the pair begin to find their way back to each other. Dylan is hopeful when Lacey turns up at his door and asks him on a date.

Sonny, however, has become protective of Lacey because he knows she is still struggling with the loss of Theo.

Worried that Dylan might hurt her without realising the emotional history involved, he tells his brother to stay away from her.

Dylan is left facing a difficult situation: he wants the freedom to make his own choices, but his brother is trying to decide which risks he should take. With Sonny concealing so much about his own life, the brothers’ different ideas about honesty are becoming harder to ignore.
